The Khmer culture

The southwestern sea area of Vietnam is the residence of ethnic groups such as the Vietnamese, the Cham, the Chinese, and the Khmer. Therefore, folk religions are a mixture of ethnic cultures. Under the influence of the folk religions in Central Vietnam, those cultural elements have been indigenized when they have been introduced into the Southwest part of Vietnam.

Theravada Buddhism is closely associated with the Khmer in the South West region of Vietnam and contributes to the cultural identity of this ethnic community. In recent years, Theravada Buddhism has been changing in both positive and negative aspects in the Khmer community in the South West part of Vietnam. These changes have posed many problems for the Buddhism and for the State management in the religious affairs.

Identify the factors of CV of the ethnic group, the manifestations of the CV of the Khmer ethnic groupsITSW today and apply the Khmer CVITSWin the process of building NRA where they are living. Up to now, a number of works of collection, study, introduction on folk stories of the Southern Khmer have been implemented with certain achievements. However, in order to recognize the uniqueness of the Southern Khmer’s fairy tales, we need to compare them with fairy tales of another ethnic group in large population and cultural differences (Viet). Therefore, the feasible study direction for the above objective is to compare Southern Khmer’s fairy tales with Viet peole’s fairy tales from the perspective of type and motif.

Research on fairy tales in general and miracle fairy tales in particular in terms of type and motif has been effectively applied by Folklore researchers in the world. In Vietnam, in recent years, this research trend has been becoming popular and achieves high practical values. By comparison the miracle fairy tales of Vietnamese people and Khmer people, this method is important in finding similarities and differences in miracle fairy tales systems of people in the same territory in term of literature and culture.

They have contributed to the multi-ethnic culture of Binh Duong. Hundreds of works on the Khmer in the Mekong Delta considered their culture as a typical of Theravada Buddhist culture in Vietnam but this proposition is not suitable for the Khmer community in An Binh, Phu giao district who is this object of this study.

Vinh Trach village is located in the coastal area of Bac Lieu town. The population of the village in 2003 is about 13,964 inhabitants with 2,396 households, of which 525 households are Khmer, 156 households are Chinese and the remains are Vietnamese. Natural area of of the village is about 4,229 ha, of which the rice land area occupies about 2,855 ha, vegetables area about 232 ha and some 1,400 ha of rice land has been converted to shrimp culture this year
