This indicated that although the Lolo and Lahu ethnic groups both belong to the Tibeto-Burman language group, the genetic distance between them was no closer than the genetic distances between them and the Kinh group of the Viet-Muong (Austroasiatic) language group. This study was the first research on the Dloop region of the Lolo and Lahu populations in Vietnam. These results provided more data for exploring the genetic background and the history of those ethnic groups as well as other minority ethnic groups in Vietnam.

To assess the frequency allele and genotypic distribution of polymorphism rs165599 in catechol-O-methyltransferase in Kinh ethnic-patients with schizophrenia. Subjects and methods: A case-control study consisted of 227 schizophrenic patients and 92 healthy controls in the Kinh ethnic. The rs165599 was genotyped by PCR-RFLP and statistical analysis was performed by Chi-Square test. Results: The frequency of allele A and G in schizophrenic patients were 72.36% and 69.94%, respectively. The frequency of allele A and G in healthy controls were 27.64% and 30.06%, respectively (p > 0.05).

The prevalence of overweight and obesity among the population was 28.2% and 43.8%, respectively. In a multivariate regression, abdominal overweight and obesity were associated with gender, ethnic group, and smoking (p < 0.05). Abdominal obesity (obesity by waist-hip-ratio (WHR)) was positively associated with female gender (OR 43.64, 95%CI 13.15 - 144.86) and negatively associated with smokers and people in ethnic groups other than Kinh and Tay.

The study aimed at analyzing the current status of residential areas of Quang Xuong District in response to “Tam nong” policy. The data were gathered from 392 residential areas of the district. The results show that Quang Xuong district has a population of 265,249 people, 65,172 households, and a total area of 22,780.12 hectares, of which the land for residential areas is 6,003.31 hectares, including 3,350.35 hectares for housing.
