The Mekong deltaic coasts have suffered from erosion and mangrove losses due to many relative threats in human activities, bringing to coastal instabilities. The massive and large number of constructions, such as sea dikes, revetments, and sea walls, tend to break the equilibrium in multiple locations along the coasts. As a result, a significant reduction of mangroves comes along in qualitative and quantitative variations, for example, the number of trees in one location and the healthy width of mangroves.

Ebook "Geodynamic evolution of the Southernmost Andes: Connections with the Scotia Arc" focuses on the strong relation between the tectonic evolution of the Southernmost Andes and their closest southern neighbors, the Scotia Sea and Antarctica. Some episodes are related to processes of global significance such as the opening of the Drake Passage, which is somehow linked to Late Cenozoic cooling. Many of the topics covered in the book are subjects of heated debates; as such, not only the latest data and approaches are presented, but different points of view as well.

Northern Song Hong Tertiary Sedimentary basin is a classic case study of a pull-apart basin in southeast Asia, whose formation was controlled by the India-Eurasia collision, sinistral and dextral strike-slip motion of the Ailao Shan-Red River Shear Zone and Opening of the East Vietnam Sea during the Cenozoic. Unlike the central and southern parts of the basin, the northern Song Hong Basin experienced a very strong inversion during the Late Miocene.

Rice is one of the most important staple foods not just to people in Asia, but around the world. To meet domestic and export demands, farmers in Southeast Asia (SEA) grow 2-3 crop cycles per year, which leaves only a short period for land preparation. Field open burning of rice straw has been widely practiced to quickly clear the surface biomass for the next crop planting.

The spreading of the East Vietnam Sea (EVS, also known as Bien Dong, or the South China Sea), leading to the occurrence of syn-spreading (33-16 Ma) and post-spreading (< 16 to present) volcanism. Syn-spreading magma making up thick layers of tholeiitic basalt with a geochemical composition close to the refractory and depleted mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) is mainly distributed inside the EVS basin.

Despite advances in oceanographic investigations in the Indian Ocean, zooplankton ecology is still poorly known from the open waters of the Bay of Bengal. In order to understand the vertical and horizontal distribution of zooplankton in the Bay of Bengal during spring intermonsoon, stratified sampling was conducted using a multiple plankton net. We found that higher zooplankton biomass was often associated with mesoscale cold-core eddies.

This paper presents the development of hydrodynamic simulation models (waves, currents) for the Vietnam East Sea and nestingto coastal area (applied in the coastal area of Phu Yen province). The COAWST modeling system has been used. This is an open source system which supports optimal parallel calculation and allows solving large-scale simulation problems.

Post- East Vietnam Sea (EVS) opening Miocene - Pleistocene basalts were collected in the coastal areas, SE continental shelf of East Vietnam Sea (EVS), elsewhere in the south-Central Highlands, as well as in the Bolaven plateau (Laos) and Buri Ram (Thailand) for study. Samples were analyzed for ages, geochemical and Sr- Nd- Pb isotopic data.

Vietnam is mainly located within the Indochina block in Southeast Asia. Asmall northern part of Vietnam belongs to the South China block, the southwest part liesadjacent to the Sibumasu block and opens to the East Sea on the east side. Tectonicactivities in Vietnam were very complicated they relate to intense interactions betweenmany geological blocks at different times. Magmatic emplacement is the final and instantproduct of tectonic activities.

Karanja estuary, an important estuarine ecosystem located adjoining to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (largest container handling Seaport in India), Raigad district of Maharashtra. The North West coast of India is famous for the dol nets fishery. Dol nets (a kind of bag net) are operated in coastal seas having strong tidal currents and amplitude with its mouth opening always facing towards the direction of the tide.

The Foça-Karaburun and Ayvalık-Lesvos grabens (western coast of Anatolia, Turkey) are two important NW−SE-trending extensional areas generated in response to the Early Miocene−Holocene extension of the Western Anatolian region, related to the opening of the ‘unconventional’ back-arc basin of the Aegean Sea.

In the afternoon of a sunny Autumn day, nearly two hundred years ago, a young man was walking along one of the newly opened roads which led into Salem village, or what is now called Danvers Centre, in the then Province of Massachusetts Bay. The town of Salem, that which is now the widely known city of that name, lay between four and five miles to the southeast, on a tongue of land formed by two inlets of the sea, called now as then North and South Rivers. Next to Plymouth it is the oldest town in New England, having been first settled in 1626....

"A time will come in later years when the Ocean will unloose the bands of things, when the immeasurable earth will lie open, when seafarers will discover new countries, and Thule will no longer be the extreme point among the lands."--Seneca. Unseen and untrodden under their spotless mantle of ice the rigid polar regions slept the profound sleep of death from the earliest dawn of time. Wrapped in his white shroud, the mighty giant stretched his clammy ice-limbs abroad, and dreamed his age-long dreams. Ages passed--deep was the silence....

An event—be it a networking gathering, open house, fundraiser, or class—is by nature, a social affair. People attend to connect, interact, and share with their peers. People join social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to connect, interact, and share with their peers. Sound familiar? Given their similar natures, it makes perfect sense to use social media to help plan, promote, and build excitement for any public event you’re hosting.

Since a modeled loss trigger mechanism takes other variables into account that can affect the value of the losses, the pricing of a hypothetical CAT bond with a modeled-index loss trigger for earthquakes in Mexico is also examined in this paper. This new approach is also fundamentally driven by the desire to mini- mize the basis risk borne by the sponsor, while remaining non-indemnity based.

In Eastern Sea (South China Sea), Jurassic - Cretaceous magmatic intrusives are discovered, they were cutting the Pre-Cenozoic sedimentaries. The Cenozoic volcanic basalts are strongly distributed together with Cenozoic sedimentaries. The paper concerns only the volcanic activities with description on their geology, chemistry, geochemistry, isotopic ages and their forming mechanism. In fact, the main topic of the paper is dealt with the forming mechanism of basalt in the dynamics of the opening of Eastern Sea in particular, and of South China Sea in general.
