The focus of this thesis was to study the chemotaxonomic relationship of selected southern Australian marine brown algae of the genera Cystophora and Sargassum. Consequently, this resulted in the isolation and structure elucidation of six new terpenoids from two southern Australian marine brown algae Cystophora moniliformis and Sargassum fallax together with 10 previously reported natural products. As a result of the re-isolation of these known secondary metabolites, updated and complete structural characterisation data could be provided for the first time for 7 of these compounds.

This thesis is the result of research into the different generations at work in an engineering consulting organisation in Victoria. The investigation was designed to research generational differences in values, attitudes and behaviours and their implications for management. This included a debate on whether the differences are generational or a consequence of age or stage-of-life.

This study contributes to the literature by applying a duality approach to confirm the significant role of shopping values in determining trust and impulse buying that, in turn, positively predict shopping well-being. As a result, this study provides a deeper understanding about if and why online shopping well-being is more affect-based. This research also introduces an appropriate theoretical framework for studying impulse buying - the duality approach and validates the positive consequence of this shopping motive.

Confusing words These are just a few words that I find are difficult to differentiate or that I find difficult to use properly. Affect vs Effect .Effect [ih-fekt]- noun, It is a result or a consequence of something. His study habits have an effect on his grades. Affect [af-ekt]- verb, The action of inflicting change. His study habits affect his grades. (Tip –when using of Affect think of Action (verb) to be sure you used it correctly)

A splicing factor SF2/ASF is a natural substrate for the kinase activity of human topoisomerase I. This study demonstrates that SF2/ASF inhibits DNA cleavage by human topoisomerase I induced by the anti-cancer agent camptothecin. The inhibition is independent of the phosphorylation status of SF2/ASF. We show that the inhibition did not result from binding of SF2/ASF to DNA that would hinder interactions between topoisomerase I and DNA. Neither it was a consequence of a loss of sensitivity of the enzyme to camptothecin.

The rapid economic growth in Vietnam has resulted in an increasing demand for electricity. This in turn translates to a higher rate of coal resource extraction and consequent rise in pollution of water and land resources. This study estimated the environmental costs associated with the electricity demand requirements of the coal electricity sector, as a component of the long-run marginal opportunity cost (LR-MOC) of electricity production.

Guanylate cyclase-activating proteins (GCAPs) are neur-onal calcium sensors that activate membrane bound guanylate cyclases (EC 4.6.1.2.) of vertebrate photoreceptor cells when cytoplasmic Ca 2+ decreases during illumination. GCAPs contain fourEF-handCa 2+ -bindingmotifs, but the first EF-hand is nonfunctional. It was concluded that for GCAP-2, the loss of Ca 2+ -binding ability of EF-hand 1 resulted in a region that is crucial for targeting guanylate cyclase [Ermilov,A.N.,Olshevskaya, E.V.&Dizhoor,A.M. (2001) J. Biol. Chem.276, 48143–48148].

Temperature acclimation in poikilotherms entails metabolic rearrangements provided by variations in enzyme properties. However, in most cases the underlying molecular mechanisms that result in structural changes in the enzymes are obscure.

Cyclosporin A induces closure of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. We aimed to investigate whether this closure results in concomitant increases in mitochondrial membrane potential (DWm) and the produc-tion of reactive oxygen species.

Friedreich’s ataxia results from a deficiency in the mitochondrial protein frataxin, which carries single point mutations in some patients. In the pres-ent study, we analysed the consequences of different disease-related muta-tions in vitro on the stability and dynamics of human frataxin.

The activating and stabilizing effects of inorganic pyrophosphate, tripoly-phosphate and nucleoside triphosphates on firefly luciferase biolumines-cence were studied. The results obtained show that those effects are a consequence of the luciferase-catalyzed splitting of dehydroluciferyl-adenyl-ate, a powerful inhibitor formed as a side product in the course of the bio-luminescence reaction.

We exhibit a counterexample to Elliott’s classification conjecture for simple, separable, and nuclear C∗ -algebras whose construction is elementary, and demonstrate the necessity of extremely fine invariants in distinguishing both approximate unitary equivalence classes of automorphisms of such algebras and isomorphism classes of the algebras themselves.

We prove analogues for hypergraphs of Szemer´di’s regularity lemma and e the associated counting lemma for graphs. As an application, we give the first combinatorial proof of the multidimensional Szemer´di theorem of Furstenberg e and Katznelson, and the first proof that provides an explicit bound. Similar results with the same consequences have been obtained independently by Nagle, R¨dl, Schacht and Skokan. o 1.

We produce a canonical filtration for locally free sheaves on an open p-adic annulus equipped with a Frobenius structure. Using this filtration, we deduce a conjecture of Crew on p-adic differential equations, analogous to Grothendieck’s local monodromy theorem (also a consequence of results of Andr´ and of Mebkhout). Namely, given a finite locally free sheaf on an open e p-adic annulus with a connection and a compatible Frobenius structure, the module admits a basis over a finite cover of the annulus on which the connection acts via a nilpotent matrix. ...

Our experience in Vietnam proves that the diagnostic skills of field veterinarians are poor. These skills in some diagnostic laboratories are good; others suffer from inadequate facilities. The objectives are to improve the diagnostic skills of field veterinarians serving regional laboratories by means of a series of interactive workshops using the regional laboratories. In this way, the diagnostic skills at all levels will be improved. The major result will be better diagnosis of animal disease, especially infectious disease.

The aim of this study was to compare the biological characteristics of newly introduced Apis mellifera bees with those previously introduced in 1960. New introduced Apis mellifera bees showed low inbreeding percentage and high honey productivity. However, they exhibited high disease infections and low egg-laying capacity of queens, consequently, resulting in low worker population.

Typical dynamic responses are also shown. The motor is initially at standstill and at no load when a step command in speed is applied; when steady-state conditions are reached, a reversal of speed is commanded followed by a step load application. The system is highly nonlinear due to the introduction of saturation needed to limit both the current delivered and the voltage applied to the motor.
