  • The waste cockle shell was prepared in nano size via ball mill technique which was run for 36 hours at 350 rpm speed and then calcined at 900 °C for 2 hours to decompose calcium carbonate, CaCO₃ into nano calcium oxide, n-CaO.

  • Biodiesel, fatty acid methyl ester produced by the transesterification of vegetable oil with methanol, is a promising alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel. In the present study, the methanolysis of high free fatty acid (FFA) Jatropha curcas oil in a transesterification reaction using K2CO3/CaO solid base catalyst was studied. The various reaction parameters in the transesterification reaction were also discussed.

  • Melting parameter modeling shows the Nghia Dan melts generated from about 3 - 4% partial melting of a combined garnet- spinel- lherzolite source between a pressure range of 20 to 25 Kb (about 75 km deep). The parameters are consistent with the low SiO2 and high trace element, including the rare earth, contents in the Nghia Dan basalts. High FeO*, TiO2, CaO and Sr may also be a result of interaction with mafic components in the lithospheric mantle by the mantle-derived melts on the way to the surface.

  • Theoretical prediction of magnetism induced by defects or doping in non-metallic colloids has gained a renewed interests recently. In this work, we investigated the possible appearance of magnetism in Cu doped CaO nanocolloids activated by SPAN-80 in the framework of density functional theory (DFT). Despite of strong antiferromagnetic superexchange interaction between Cu2+ ions, the local magnetic moment of Cu may arise due to attachment of colloidal agent onto the surface of CaO nanocluster.

  • The results indicated that there were three CuO species in the mixed oxide: the finely dispersed CuO species on the surface of CeO2, the Ce1-x-yCuxCayO2-δ solid solution and the bulk CuO. Most of particles have clear morphology with relatively uniform size in the range of 30 - 50 nm and the BET surface area was 37.96 m2 /g. After three times of use, the catalytic activity of CaO-CuO-CeO2 mixed oxide was still relatively high and much higher than the mixed oxide CaO-CeO2 and CuO-CeO2.

  • The Elastomeric Alloy (EA) materials based on polypropylene (PP) and Vietnam waste Rubber Powder (RP) has been prepared in internal mixer of Haake in melting state with peroxide initiator. Dynamically stabilizing process at presence of radical donor and acceptor systems has leaded to form chemical bonds on the surface between two phases of surspending rubber powder and PP matrix and then to form intermediate phase surrounding Rubber Particles and making EA higher dense than that of materials by simple mixing RP and PP without networking.

  • We are concerned with grammar-based surfacesyntactic analysis of running text. Morphological and syntactic analysis is here based on tags that express surface-syntactic relations between functional categories such as Subject, Modifier, Main verb etc.; consider the following simple sentence:

  • We propose a method for analyzing long complex and compound sentences that utilizes global structure analysis with domain-specific pattern grammar. Previously, long sentence analysis with global information used the following methods: two-level analysis--global structure analysis of long sentences with domain-independent function words and parsing of their constituents[Doi et al., 1991], and pattern matching--adaptation of domain-specific fixed pattern to input sentences. By utilizing domaindependent information the latter method could analyze long sentences of that domain.

  • The formal architecture of Lexical Functional Grammar offers a particular formal device, the structural correspondence, for modularizing the mapping between the surface forms of a language and representations of their underlying meanings. This approach works well when the structural discrepancies between form and meaning representations are finitely bounded, but there are some phenomena in natural language, e.g. adverbs in English, where this restriction does not hold.

  • In the paper it is argued that for some linguistic phenomena, current discourse representation structures are insufficiently finegrained, both from the perspective of serving as representation in NLP and from a truth conditional perspective. One such semantic phenomenon is uniqueness. It is demonstrated that certain elements are forced to have a unique interpretation, from a certain point in discourse onwards. This could be viewed as the semantic counterpart of surface order.

  • MorP is a system for automatic word class assignment on the basis of surface features. It has a very small lexicon of form words (%o entries), and for the rest works entirely on morphological and configurational patterns. This makes it robust and fast, and in spite of the (deliberate) restrictedness of the system, its performance reaches an average accuracy level above 91% when run on unrestricted Swedish text. K e y w o r d s : parsing, morphology. The development of the parser to be presented has been supported by the Swedish Research Council for the Humanities. ...

  • Finnish is a highly inflectional language. A verb can have over ten thousand different surface forms - nominals slightly fewer. Consequently, a morphological analyzer is an important component of a system aiming at "understanding" Finnish. This paper briefly describes our rule-based heuristic analyzer for Finnish nominal and verb forms. Our tests have shown it to be quite efficient: the analysis of a Finnish word in a running text takes an average of 15 ms of DEC 20 CPU-time.

  • Situation Semantics is one of the most recent and controversial theories in formal semantics. Machine Translation (MT) is a highly complex application domain, in which research is expensive of both time and resources. On the surface, the space for interaction between these two fields would seem fairly limited, and in practice the the application of formal semantics in MT has been very limited, a notable exception being the Rosetta project (Landsbergen 1982, 1987).

  • In this paper we discuss an algorithm for the assignment of pitch accent positions in text-to-speech conversion. The algorithm is closely modeled on current linoulstic accounts of accent placement, and assumes a surface syntactic analysis of the input. It comprises a small number of heuristic rules for determining which phrases of a sentence are to be focussed upon; the exact location of a pitch accent within a focussed phrase is determined m~inly on the basis of the syntactic relations holding b e t w e e n the e l e m e n t s of the phrase....

  • A considerable amount of work in current AI research is concerned with inferring intentions from utterances (e.g., [Allen 83], [Carberry 83], [Grosz, Sidner 86]) or planning speech acts serving certain goals (e.g., [Appelt 85]), but only a few uniform approaches to both aspects have been presented. Most approaches to dialog control described in the literature offer either rigid action schemata that enable the simulation of the desired behavior on the surface (but lack the necessary degree of flexibility, e. g.

  • The English passive construction has played a central role in the to-ings and fro-ings of grammatical theory over the last 30 years, from the earliest days of transformational grammar, to more recent, surface oriented theories of syntax. The casual reader of the linguistic literature might therefore suppose that the computational linguist looking for an off the shelf analysis of passives would be able to choose from among several competing analyses, each of which accommodated the facts, but perhaps derived them from (or from them} different theoretical principles.

Moreover, this is done by means of declarative rules, thereby avoiding the procedural problems of generative phonology, and the algorithm used is language independent.

  • In the course of trying to understand the pathogenesis of leishmaniasis in relation to extracellular matrix (ECM) elements, laminin, a major ECM protein, has been found to bind saturably and with high affinity to a 67-kDa cell surface protein of Leishmania donovani. This interaction involves a single class of binding sites, which are ionic in nature, conformation-dependent and possibly involves sulfhydryls. Binding activity was significantly enhanced by Zn2+, an effect possibly mediated through Cys-rich zinc finger-like sequences on laminin....
