  • The model was applied to the study long wave propagation on uneven bathymetries, after that, compared with analytical solutions or published numerical ones to understand more about the interaction processes between the long wave and sea beach or island in terms of water and velocity profiles. Very good agreement is observed in the figures bellow, showing good application prospect.

  • The influences of two-stage asymmetric damper on the dynamic responses under transient road inputs in range of different vehicle velocities were investigated. This study’s purpose is to get full understanding of the dynamic behavior of the bus using the two-stage asymmetric damper.

  • Determination of the local void fraction in BWRs from in-core neutron noise measurements requires the knowledge of the axial velocity of the void. The purpose of this paper is to revisit the problem of determining the axial void velocity profile from the transit times of the void between axially placed detectors, determined from in-core neutron noise measurements.

  • This paper proposes a novel beamforming solution for multi-receiver synthetic aperture sonar (SAS), which uses gated continuous-wave (CW) pulses, based on the average value of equivalent sound velocity (ESV) when considering the change of the sound velocity with depth. The main beam can be steered to desirable positions with the proposed solution.

  • The main target in motion control is fast, accurate, small oscillations, no overshoot in both position and velocity. However, the traditional velocity planning methods cannot satisfy the requirements. One of the most popular control methods is using S-curve motion profile. Many papers and researchers have reported on this method.

  • This paper proposes a servo controller design and fault detection algorithm for speed control of conveyor system (CS). Firstly, modeling for a CS is described. Secondly, the robust servo controller based on polynomial differential operator is applied to track the trapezoidal velocity profile reference input. Thirdly, a fault detection algorithm based on Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is proposed.

  • In this paper, we present detail data of Pliocene - present tectonics and strain rate from GPS measurement and seismic interpretation. Using international reference frame ITRF08, we revealed absolute tectonic velocities of GPS sites with the slip rate to the east between 22 to 25 mm/year, to the south between 4 to 8 mm/year. The present strain rate was determined from present tectonic velocities that were consistent with the recent strain rates determined from seismic profiles, thickness of Pliocene - Quaternary sediments.

  • This study addresses, to some extent, the effect of the seeding-particle concentration on the results of spike-excitation UVP measurements. For the investigation, experimental measurements of water pipe flow have been carefully executed for a wide range of the particle concentration. The dependence of the measured data on the particle concentration is evaluated and reported. The result of this study suggests an appropriate range of the seeding-particle concentration in setting up spike-excitation UVP measurements.

  • In this paper, the effects of wind velocity according to height above the ground on the rain-wind induced vibration (RWIV) of stay cables are investigated. RWIV of the cable is modeled using the linear theory of cable vibration and the central difference algorithm. The wind speed profile according to height above the ground, which affects both aerodynamic forces acting on the cable and the oscillation of the rivulet on the cable surface, is taken into account in the theoretical formulation.

  • Testing of agricultural sprinklers is necessary to find the optimum field operating conditions with minimum cost while satisfying design water distribution criteria. In the present study two twin-nozzle agricultural sprinklers were tested in field under ten different operating pressures ranging from 1.6 kg/cm² to 3.5 kg/cm². In each experiment sprinkler discharge rate, nozzle pressure, radius of throw, and water distribution pattern around the sprinkler were observed. The average discharge coefficients of the two sprinkler nozzles were determined.

  • In this study, effects of voidage distribution to gas velocity profile in a packed bed with pellet particles was empirically investigated. Uniformity of local velocity at the top of the bed was clearly observed with decreasing of bed height and flow rate. For 400 mm of bed height, the measured velocities are a well fitting to Fahien and Stankovich model for any expected flow rate.

  • In the present study, a methodology to depict MFCI phenomena using a flat panel detector based imaging system (i.e., real time radiography) is brought out using a woods metal-water experimental facility which simulates the UO2-Na interaction. The developed imaging system can capture attributes of the MFCI process like jet breakup length, jet front velocity, fragmented particle size, and a profile of the debris bed using digital image processing methods like image filtering, segmentation, and edge detection.

  • A variational principle for channel and pipe flows of incompressible viscous fluid is proposed. For low Reynolds numbers this variational principle reduces to the principle of minimum dissipation. For high Reynolds numbers it enables one to calculate the velocity profiles and the corresponding friction factors with reasonably good accuracy.

  • It is notable that even though Missing the Target researchers asked their diverse set of key informants specifically about the role of global agencies, the response was limited in most countries. This suggests that these global agencies need to be far more visible as advisors and advocates for comprehensive prevention of vertical transmission services that are integrated with HIV, maternal/child health, and sexual and reproductive services.

  • Linking up with Chapter 2, dealing with uniform flow in open channels, it may be noted that any change in the flow phenomenon (i.e. flow rate, velocity, flow depth, flow area, bed slope do not remain constant) causes the flow to be non-uniform. This chapter will discuss the effect of change in any one of the above quantities, including specific energy, critical depth and slope, and flow types. How to draw water surface profiles will also be introduced.
