Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary, malignant brain tumour with a 5-year survival of 5%. If possible, a glioblastoma is resected and further treated with chemoradiation therapy (CRT), but resection is not feasible in about 30% of cases. Current standard of care in these cases is a biopsy followed by CRT.

Inadvertent perioperative hypothermia (IPH) leads to surgical complications and increases length of stay. IPH rates are high with the current standard of care, forced air warming (FAW). Our hypothesis is that a prototype thermal compression device that heats the popliteal fossa and soles of the feet, with lower leg compression, increases perioperative temperatures and reduces IPH compared to the current standard of care.

Deferring cord clamping at very preterm births may be beneficial for babies. However, deferring cord clamping should not mean that newborn resuscitation is deferred. Providing initial care at birth at the mother’s bedside would allow parents to be present during resuscitation, and would potentially allow initial care to be given with the cord intact.

Recommendations for care in the first week of a newborn’s life include thermal care practices such as drying and wrapping, skin to skin contact, immediate breastfeeding and delayed bathing. This paper examines beliefs and practices related to neonatal thermal care in three African countries.

There was less than satisfactory progress, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, towards child and maternal mortality targets of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5. The main aim of this study was to describe the prevalence and determinants of essential new newborn care practices in the Lawra District of Ghana.

Although child mortality has decreased over the last several decades, neonatal mortality has declined less substantially. In South Asia, neonatal deaths account for the majority of all under-five deaths, calling for further study on newborn care practices.

Neonatal hypothermia plays a significant role in increasing neonatal death by 80% for every 1 degree Celsius decrease of body temperature, especially in sub Saharan countries. A global burden of neonatal hypothermia indicated that 53% of Ethiopian newborns developed hypothermia due to different sociodemographic, behavioral, physiological and birth context related factors.

Bearings (both plain and rolling element) are used as important supporting elements for locating rotating components and confining their motion in desired direction. In order to ensure their operational reliability and desired life, these need to be properly designed/selected for an application more so because of ever increasing operational speeds. This requires the careful performance evaluation of different types of bearings considering aspects such as thermal stability, lubrication, contaminants in lubricants and controlling mechanism etc....

As network equipment such as routers and switches, continues to evolve, changes in proper cable-management techniques and recommendations must also keep up with the times. Routers and switches are being marketed with higher densities and more capabilities. These higher-density platforms have more cables feeding them and require more power. More powerful equipment gives out more heat, so careful airflow and thermal management is more important than ever. Density within a single cabinet is increasing.
