In this study, the thermodynamic dissociation constants of two new quinoline derivatives including (6-hydroxyl-3-sulfoquinoline-7-yloxy) acetic acid and (5-bromo-6-hydroxyl-N-methyl-3-sulfoquinoline-7-yloxy) acetic acid were initially determined in an aqueous solution using potentiometric titration at (25.0 ± 0.1) oC in the ionic medium of 0.10 M KCl solution.

The structure of the new acid and data of potentiometric titration were analyzed in detail before calculating and assigning the pKa values to suitable functional groups. These results will be applied to our further studies of this compound.

The effects of ionic strength and temperature on the dissociation constants of adefovir (PMEA) and cidofovir (HPMPC) used as antiviral drugs were studied at 298 K, 308 K, and 318 K in aqueous media and at different ionic strength backgrounds of NaCl potentiometrically. The dissociation constants of the ligands were determined via the calculation of the titration data with the SUPERQUAD computer program. The thermodynamic parameters (∆G, ∆H , and ∆S) for all species were calculated.

The kinetics and thermodynamics of the urea-induced unfolding of ¯avodoxin and apo¯avodoxin fromDesulfo-vibrio vulgariswere investigated by measuring changes in ¯avin and protein ¯uorescence. The reaction of urea with ¯avodoxin is up to 5000 times slower than the reaction with the apoprotein (0.67 s )1 in 3 Murea in 25 mMsodium phosphate at 25°C), and it results in the dissociation of FMN.

T4DNA ligase is an Mg 2+ -dependent andATP-dependent enzyme that seals DNA nicks in three steps: it covalently binds AMP,transadenylates the nick phosphate, and cata-lyses formation of the phosphodiester bond releasing AMP.

We have studied the stability of the histone-like, DNA-binding protein HU from the hyperthermophilic eubacteriumThermotoga maritimaand its E34D mutant by differential scanningmicrocalorimetry and CDunder acidic conditions at various concentrations within the range of 2–225lMof monomer. The thermal unfolding of both proteins is highly reversible and clearly follows a two-state dissociation/unfolding model from the folded, dimeric state to the unfolded, monomericone.
