  • The influence of heterogeneity, however, cannot be studied experimentally. In this study, we employed two reversed phase columns with different retention mechanisms to show that by serially coupling the columns, the obtained thermodynamic parameters are not related to the results obtained on the respective individual columns.

  • A model was proposed and used to calculated the changes in enthalpy (∆Ho), entropy (∆So), and Gibbs energy (∆Go), as well as equilibrium constant (K) relating to the sintering of alumina compacts. Specific nanopore volume (V) of the compacts was assumed as a thermodynamic variable. A hypothetical equilibrium constant (Kh) and corresponding Gibbs energy (∆Goh) were calculated depending on the V value measured after each sintering.

  • Unmodified montmorillonite clay was utilized as a low cost adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from a contaminated automobile effluent. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Xray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the adsorbent. Batch sorption experiments were performed at an optimum effluent pH of 6.5, adsorbent dose of 0.1 g, particle size of 100 lm and equilibrium contact time of 180 min. Thermodynamic analysis was also conducted. Equilibrium data were analyzed by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich models.

  • This paper summarises experiences on industrial scale reforming of CO2 -rich natural gas. Methane can react in a direct route with CO2 to form a synthesis gas consisting of CO and H2 , so called dry reforming (DMR). This reaction is closely related to steam methane reforming (SMR). DMR has received much attention as it in theory off ers a way of using CO2 , which is considered in many industries as a waste product and environmentally as a polluting greenhouse gas.

  • The temperature is increased from 50 K to 5500 K in order to observe the change of the structure during heating process. Various thermodynamic quantities related to the change of structure are calculated such as the radial distribution functions the Lindemann criterion, the occurrence/growth of liquidlike atoms, the formation of clusters, and the ring statistics. The melting point is defined. The phase transition from solid to liquid states exhibits first order behavior.
