Ebook "Structural concrete: Finite-element analysis for limit-state design" is a review of available experimental data on the behaviour of concrete at both the material and structural levels reveals the unavoidable development of triaxial stress conditions prior to failure which dictate the collapse and ductility of structural concrete members; moreover - and in contrast with widely-accepted tenets - it can be shown that the post peak-stress behaviour of concrete as a material is realistically described by a complete and immediate loss of load-carrying capacity.

In this study, three-dimensional crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) simulations of the nanoindentation test on zinc single crystal have been implemented in the finite element code Abaqus using a user material subroutine. The basics of deformation mechanisms of zinc, nanoindentation test and crystal plasticity theory will be presented.

This paper presents a developed three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FEM) of flexural and shear strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) T-beams using a CFRP (Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer) system combined by near-surface mounted (NSM) strips and U-wraps subjected by asymmetric loading. The 3D FEM was verified by experimental results.

An improved six-node triangular finite element based on a twice-interpolation strategy (TIS) for accurately modeling singular stress fields near crack tips of two-dimensional (2D) cracks in solids is presented. In contrast to the traditional approaches, the approximation functions constructed based on the TIS involve both nodal values and averaged nodal gradients.

The dynamic analysis is a necessity in the design, manufacturing and maintenance of structures. The analytic solutions are not available for most practical cases and the Finite Element Method (FEM) is not reliable due to the joint problem, unclear loading, material properties and numerical error. In this paper, we present a way to find modes shape of 3D Frame by FEM program using Matlab.

The failure load of single-lap bonded joints with dissimilar adherend materials was predicted using the damage zone method. A number of six joint configurations with different thicknesses of the adherends were considered. Three-dimensional finite element models were built to represent the behavior of the bonded joints, and the damage zone method was applied to predict the failure loads of the joints.

Minimal available information concerning hip morphology is the motivation for several researchers to study the difference between Asian and Western populations. Current use of a universal hip stem of variable size is not the best option for all femur types.

Clinically there are different fixation methods used for fixation of the posterior malleolar fractures (PMF), but the best treatment modality is still not clear. Few studies have concentrated on this issue, least of all using a biomechanical comparison.

In this paper, the technique is applied to analyze transient heat transfer problems. In order increase time efficiency, a modelreduction technique, namely the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), is employed. The idea is that a given large-size problem is projected into a small-size one which can be solved faster but still maintain the required accuracy.

Previous studies have revealed positive effect of Topping-off technique on upper adjacent segment after fusion surgery, while for the cases with fusion surgery on L5-S1 segment, owning maximal range of motion, and preexisting degenerated upper adjacent disc, it is necessary to clarify the superiority of Topping-ff technique and the effect exerted on the lumbar spine.

The present paper presents the evaluation of three-dimensional (3D) stress distributions of shell structures in the large displacement and rotation fields. The proposed geometrical nonlinear model is based on a combination of the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF) and the Finite Element Method (FEM). Besides, a Newton-Raphson linearization scheme is adopted to compute the geometrical nonlinear equations, which are constrained using the arc-length path-following method.

. In the pile-soil model, the lateral load is located at the pile head including both lateral force and bending moment. The single pile is considered as a beam on elastic foundation while shear beams model the soil column below the pile toe. The differential equations governing pile deflections are derived based on the energy principles and variational approaches.

Photoelastic images of pulsed laser ablation in liquid were simulated by Finite Element Method. The real stress distribution in the target was deduced from the photoelastic images. The simulation result can represent to some extend the photoelastic images taken by the experiment.

A finite element analysis is performed for the bolted joint and the model is used to predict stress field for a Grey Cast iron and aluminum alloy. Joint member stiffness is presented against member aspect ratio in dimensionless form. Results show good agreement as compared with those of used techniques of Montosh and Marschke.

The current study measures the mechanical behavior of both natural and the monobloc elastomeric disc prosthesis (CadiscTM-L) by employing a finite element method (FEM) to study the fiber-reinforced constitutive formulation provided in the literature. The three-dimensional geometry was created by computed tomography (CT) scan imaging technique.

The linear elastic analysis of homogeneous, isotropic cracked bodies started in the 1900s. The existence of three dimensional corner point effects in the vicinity of a corner point where a crack front intersects a free surface was investigated in the late 1970s. An approximate solution by Bažant and Estenssoro explained some features of corner point effects but there were various paradoxes and inconsistencies.

Transmission lines located in the desert are subjected to desert climate, one of whose features is sandstorms. With long accumulation of sand and with the advent of moisture from rain, ambient humidity and dew, a conductive layer forms and the subsequent leakage current may lead to surface discharge, which may shorten the insulator life or lead to flashover thus interrupting the power supply. Strategically erected power lines in the Egyptian Sinai desert are typically subject to such a risk, where sandstorms are known to be common especially in the spring.
