Three ESP development

This article addresses ESP and developing ESP syllabi and teaching materials by conducting situation and needs analysis. This is followed by a description of the methodology including both interviews with teachers and questionnaires with students at the three faculties in analyzing the needs. Subsequently, the findings from these semi-controlled interviews and questionnaires are presented and discussed. The paper finishes with some practical suggestions for the procedure in developing ESP syllabi and teaching materials.

Subject content is an important part of ESP courses. However, it is controversial how much subject content should be integrated into course content. This paper reviews the debate over specificity of ESP courses in three ESP development periods since 1960s. It will provide ESP practitioners, course writers and managers a theoretical overview to inform their teaching and researching practices.

The physical, social and intellectual development of children from conception to the end of adolescence requires an environment that is both protected and protective of their health. A growing number of dis- eases in children are linked to unsafe environments. Prenatal and early life exposures, including diet, are associated with child health and human development and predispose to late adult effects.
