Tibial shaft fractures

The tibial shaft is one of the most common open long bone fractures; treatment improperly can lead to many serious complications and frequently cause permanent sequelae. Infection is one of the most common and disastrous complications of an open fracture. This study assessed Bacterial cultures and the outcome of intramedullary interlocking nails in open diaphyseal fractures of the tibial.

A concomitant tibial shaft and posterior malleolar fracture is a type of regular compound fracture. The associated posterior malleolar fractures are mostly occult fractures, which often do not show a fracture line on ordinary films, and thus lead to a high rate of misdiagnosis.

The conventional infrapatellar approach to intramedullary nailing of tibial fractures adopts the supine high-flexion knee position. However, this has disadvantages including difficulty in obtaining the proximal tibial anteroposterior view during intraoperative fluoroscopy, prolonged duration of fluoroscopy.

Tibial shaft fractures (TSFs) are among the most common long bone injuries often resulting from high-energy trauma. To date, musculoskeletal complications such as fracture-related infection (FRI) and compromised fracture healing following fracture fixation of these injuries are still prevalent.

Tibial shaft fractures are routinely managed with intramedullary nailing (IMN). An increasingly accepted technique is the suprapatellar (SP) approach. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of knee joint after tibia IMN through an suprapatellar (SP) or traditional infrapatellar (IP) approach.

The treatment of open tibial shaft fractures is challenging. External fixation (EF) is comparatively safe in treating these open injuries, meanwhile it has the advantages of easy application, minimal additional disruption, and convenient subsequent soft tissue repair. Nevertheless, its application is accompanied by a series of problems in alignment and bone healing.

Objectives: To report our experience in minimally invasive treatment for closed and unstable.fractures of the distal tibia but no indication of intramedullary nailing. Subjects and methods: Twenty two patients underwent minimally invasive treatment for closed fractures of distal tibia.with locking plate reduction under C-arm.

This book is a step-by-step, thoroughly illustrated guide to external fracture fixation techniques using the JET-X® system, featuring full freedom clamps. Chapters written by leading orthopaedic trauma surgeons describe the use of these techniques for femoral shaft fractures, supracondylar femur fractures, tibial plateau fractures, tibia fractures, pilon fractures, pelvic fractures, distal radius fractures, supracondylar elbow fractures, and humeral shaft fractures. More than 175 full-color illustrations demonstrate the techniques....

In selected cases, it can be applied externally in an extracorporeal location to function as a monolateral external fixator.
