Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) is a major cool-season forage and turfgrass species. The low tiller density and size dramatically limits its turf performance and forage yield. MicroRNAs (miRNA)-genes modules play critical roles in tiller development in plants.

Although extensive breeding efforts are ongoing in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.), the average yield is far below the theoretical potential. Tillering is an important component of sugarcane yield, however, the molecular mechanism underlying tiller development is still elusive.

Genetic analysis of biparental progenies resulted that, the traits viz,. days to 50% RWC and plant height were governed by additive gene action for improvement of these traits while, days to flowering, productive tillers per plant, 1000- grain weight, and grain yield can be improved by heterosis breeding. Main objective of the study was to evaluate rice genotypes for yield and yield related traits for heterosis to develop new breeding lines that can perform better in water stress conditions.

OL 12 is a single cut fodder variety released by State Variety Approval committee for general cultivation in Punjab state during the year 2018. This variety has been developed from the cross between Kent x OL 125 through pedigree method of selection. Its plants are tall with profuse tillering and leafy growth. The leaves are longer and broader (Fig. 1). The salient morphological characteristics of this variety are presented in Table 1. On an average, it attains plant height of 138 cm. It has higher leaf to stem ratio, stem thickness and bears more number of tillers per plant.

Genetics of quality parameters and their associations with grain yield and its component traits have a direct bearing on devising effective strategies for breeding biofortified crop cultivars. A newly developed 54 hybrids of pearl millet showed large genetic variability for yield and nutritional traits. Correlation studies revealed that single plant yield has positive significant correlation with the agronomic traits viz., plant height, number of productive tillers, test weight, single head grain weight and quality traits viz.

In the present investigation HUR 105 genotype was selected to see the effect of hydro and hormonal seed priming on growth and development of rice crop. Priming of seeds has been done with distilled water (hydro) and two hormones (Kinetin and salicylic acid) and different growth parameters, such as plant height, number of tillers hill-1 , number of green leaves hill-1 , leaf area hill-1 and leaf area index were studied at different study periods under timely and late sown conditions. Primed seeds increased all the growth parameters in respect to non-primed (control) sets.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a staple food crop worldwide. Its yield and quality are affected by its tillering pattern and spikelet development. Although many genes involved in the vegetative and reproductive development of rice have been characterized in previous studies, the genetic mechanisms that control axillary tillering, spikelet development, and panicle exsertion remain incompletely understood.

In India, there is a need for a small scale sugarcane harvesting machine which can be used by small and marginal farm holders. The present work has been taken to develop a suitable harvesting machine/ attachment which can be power tiller attached and operated by a multi -purpose tool carrier; for the small and marginal farmers. The developed test set up consisted of a vertical rotor shaft for holding the cutting blade to achieve desired height of cut of cane, the bevel gear unit, the power drive and frame work.

The present investigation was assessed using 100 F2 individuals, their parents and F1 for characters days to flowering, plant height, panicle length, productive tillers per plant, number of grains per panicle, grain yield per plant, straw yield per plant and harvest index. These traits are most important for identification of good segregating plants or genotype. Here, in the present study F2 population was developed from the cross between GAR-13 (improved and high yielding cultivar) and Lalkada (local landrace).

The estimation of crop yield before harvest helps in different policy making in an order for storage, distribution, marketing, pricing, import-export etc. Crop productions depend on several factors such as weather factors, plant characters and agricultural inputs. The present study was carried out to develop the appropriate statistical model for estimation of rice yield before harvest in the year 2018-19. This research was done on plant biometrical characters along with farmer’s appraisal.

The experiment was conducted in split plot design on wheat variety UP-2565 to study phenological development and yield of wheat in relation to sowing dates, seed priming and foliar nutrition. Main plot treatments consisted of two sowing date i.e. timely (November 28) and late (December 28) and seed priming with 2.0% KCl for 12 hours and non-primed seed. Sub plot treatment consisted of foliar treatment including foliar spray of 0.

The climate determines selection of right crop and its sequence for a particular location, while the prevailing weather conditions dictate the potentiality of that crop and nitrogen use. On an average every 1oC rise in temperature could lead to a 20 per cent reduction in crop yields. Therefore, the two big challenges viz., finite cultivable land and rise in temperature have to be overcome by agricultural sector to sustain crop yields. In this direction, one of the ways is to use weather and climate as non-monetary input in crop production. Among the crops, rice is a weather sensitive crop.

System of Finger millet intensification or SRI-finger millet cultivation is a method of cultivating finger millet by applying cultivation principles adopted in SRI (System of Rice Intensification) in order to get higher productivity. This method is also called as Guli type of Planting. This POP developed for SRIFinger Millet is an integration of the farmers’ practice and standard practices of finger millet cultivation along with two levels of two doses of fertilizers.

Nitrogen is one of the most important mineral nutrients required for plant development especially for tillering and vegetative growth. Management of nitrogenous fertilizers poses a significant challenge in sugarcane cropping system as the efficiency of utilization of nitrogen is very poor. Improving the Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) is imperative to achieve the maximum cane yield with less N inputs.

Teosinte (Zea mays ssp. luxurians), African tall (fodder maize) and Harsha (composite) were included for development of CRIDA tillering maize viz., CRTM-2. Single plant of CRTM2 had five effective tillers similar to Teosinte, with a total height of 1223.5 cm, 62.0 leaves and 25.8 filled cobs. CRTM-2 showed an increase of 530.3, 423.7 and 2086.0% over Harsha, 388.0, 315.8 and 2350 % over African tall and 15.5, 34.
