  • The objective of this study was to investigate the distribution and prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in wild free ranging peafowls living in Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts of Southern Tamilnadu, through cross-sectional survey. A total of 72 freshly voided faecal samples were collected randomly from wild free ranging peafowls of either sex and of different age groups and were examined by direct faecal smear; flotation and sedimentation techniques to detect parasitic oocysts and/or eggs.

  • This paper analyzes the attitude of farmers towards crop diversification in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. Census of India (2011) reported that about 54.60 per cent of the population involved in agriculture and allied activities. The total food grains production in the country was 284.83 million tons during the year of 2017-18. Crop diversification is one of the best options to increase income of the farmers and also leads to food, nutritional and ecological security.

Required primary data were collected through interview method from 40 paddy farmers in Ambasamudram block of Tirunelveli district.   • Basal rot is a major fungal disease that occurs in onion crop caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae (Hanazawa) Snyder &Hansen. Severe yield losses occur in the onion crop due to the rotting of bulbs. Survey was conducted in onion growing areas of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts and five isolates of Fusarium were isolated under in vitro. The isolates were confirmed by both morphological and cultural characters.

  • Folkways and mores play a major role in traditional dairy farming. Hence an attempt was made to document the prevailing folkways and mores in traditional dairy farming in the areas where cattle population is high. Tirunelveli, Namakkal, Vellore and Thiruppur districts were selected for the study based on the highest livestock population. A sample of 240 farmers was interviewed through structured interview schedule to document the folkways and mores.

  • Indigenous technical knowledge plays an important role in traditional dairy farming. In due course, there is danger of extinction of this knowledge. It is of paramount importance to document these practices and to assess their validity. Hence an attempt was made to document the prevailing ITK’s among the 10 dairy cattle owners each from four districts viz., Tirunelveli, Namakkal, Vellore and Thiruppur districts and also comparing the present ITKs with the Modern Veterinary drugs for Anestrum.

  • Okra is the major crop grown all over India. India is the largest producer of okra in the world with the largest productivity. The crop is susceptible to a wide range of sucking pests hence there is an indiscriminate usage of pesticide on okra. A detailed survey was conducted to analyze the pest and pesticide status of okra growing farmers of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts. The survey reported that the higher number of farmers was found to use imidacloprid 17.8 SL for the management of sucking pests on okra.
