There are many evidences showing the fact that some hard conditions from environment, namely abiotic stress, could make several significantly negative impacts on crop production. However, some plant species can overcome these bad situations by complicated mechanisms. This study has shown the result of the construction the recombinant vector carrying CodA gene which could encode an enzyme, named choline oxidase, and is controlled by Rd29A promoter.

We have known that plant defensins have the main roles in biotic stress, especially antifungal activities. In addition, their functions on abiotic stress tolerance have been demonstrated on previous studies, but that information was still limited.

Heat shock proteins 90 (HSP90s) are a highly conserved protein family of cellular chaperones widely found in plants; they play a fundamental role in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. The genome-wide analysis of HSP90 gene family has been completed for some species; however, it has been rarely reported for the tobacco HSP90 genes.

Plants are advantageous as biopharmaceutical manufacturing platforms because they allow the economical and scalable upstream production of proteins, including those requiring post-translational modifications, but do not support the replication of human viruses. However, downstream processing can be more labor-intensive compared to fermenter-based systems because the product is often mixed with abundant host cell proteins.

The CRISPR/Cas9 system provides bacteria and archaea with molecular immunity against invading phages and conjugative plasmids. Recently, CRISPR/Cas9 has been used for targeted genome editing in diverse eukaryotic species.

As in animals, cell–cell communication plays a pivotal role in male–female recognition during plant sexual reproduction. Prelaid peptides secreted from the female reproductive tissues guide pollen tubes towards ovules for fertilization. However, the elaborate mechanisms for this dialogue have remained elusive, particularly from the male perspective.

The isolates differed between itself in host range. All of these isolates except two were able to induce galls on kalanchoe, sunflower, datura, tobacco and chenopodium. Only five isolates produced galls on tomato. All isolates caused necrosis on grapevine explants.

Effect of potassium (K) application through leaves (LA) or roots (RA) was studied in tobacco plants grown under K deficiency and drought stress conditions. Application of K was effective in improving the shoot growth only under drought conditions, whereas root biomass and length responded under both watering regimes.

In contrast with traditional nuclear gene transformation, transplastomic technology has opened a new horizon for the transgenic plant research that offers several beneficial aspects including the convenient use of transgene stacking and the generation of high expression levels of foreign proteins. However, this technology has been well adopted and established in tobacco, the introduction and adoption of cost-effective, swift, and reproducible protocol for in vitro regeneration of transplastomic potato is challenging and laborious.

Heavy metals are hazardous pollutants for humans, animals and plants, when their threshold concentration exceeds. Tobacco can accumulate higher concentrations of heavy metals, and the genotypic differences of tobacco in heavy metal uptake and their growth responses have not been clearly examined. In this study, the effects of nickel (Ni) and lead (Pb) on phytoremediation capabilities were tested in four local Oriental tobacco cultivars (Basma, Akhisar, Sarıbağlar and Dibek).

WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) genes encoding plant-specific homeobox (HB) transcription factors play important roles in the growth and development of plants. To date, WOX genes has been identified and analyzed in many polyploids (such as cotton and tobacco), but the evolutionary analysis of them during polyploidization is rare.

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs), long ncRNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs), accomplish remarkable variety of biological functions. However, the composition of ncRNAs and their interactions with coding RNAs in modulating and controlling of cellular process in plants is largely unknown.

Anthocyanins determinate the flower color of many plants. Tobacco is a model plant for studying the molecular regulation of flower coloration. We investigated the mechanism underlying flower coloration in tobacco by profiling flavonoid metabolites, expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic structural genes and their regulator genes in the pink-flowered tobacco cultivar Yunyan 87 and white-flowered Yunyan 87 mutant.

Weather change in high-altitude areas subjects mature tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) to cold stress, which damages tobacco leaf yield and quality. A brupt diurnal temperature differences (the daily temperature dropping more than 20 °C) along with rainfall in tobacco-growing areas at an altitude above 2450 m, caused cold stress to field-grown tobacco.

‘Regal Splendour’ (Hosta variety) is famous for its multi-color leaves, which are useful resources for exploring chloroplast development and color changes. The expressions of chlorophyll biosynthesis-related genes (HrHEMA, HrPOR and HrCAO) in Hosta have been demonstrated to be associated with leaf color.

Carotenoids play important roles in photosynthesis, hormone signaling, and secondary metabolism. Phytoene synthase (PSY) catalyzes the first step of the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway. In this study, we aimed to characterize the PSY genes in tobacco and analyze their function.

Tobacco seed oil could be used as an appropriate feedstock for biodiesel production. However, the high linoleic acid content of tobacco seed oil makes it susceptible to oxidation. Altering the fatty acid profile by increasing the content of oleic acid could improve the properties of biodiesel produced from tobacco seed oil.
