Tocher‘s method of clustering

Genetic diversity among 30 advanced breeding lines of groundnut were estimated using Mahalanobis D2 statistic for 21 characters. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among the advanced breeding lines for all characters. Based on Tocher's method, 30 advanced breeding lines were grouped into ten clusters.

The present experiment was carried out using 51 genotypes at Vegetable Research Centre of G. B. P. U. A & T., Pantnagar, during kharif season of 2019. Mahalanobis D2 statistics was worked out using 11 quantitative characters to assess the degree of genetic divergence. On the basis of value generated using Tocher’s method, 51 genotypes were grouped into six clusters. Cluster I is largest with 42 genotypes followed by clusterII and III with 3 genotypes and cluster IV, V and VI containing 1 genotype in each.

Fourty genotypes of fenugreek were grown at College Farm, N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari during Rabi 2015-16. Grouping of the genotypes was carried-out by following Tocher's method (Rao, 1952). The D2 analysis indicated presence of ample genetic diversity among the genotypes studied, which were grouped into 6 clusters. The maximum inter-cluster distance was observed between cluster-VI and V followed by cluster-VI and V. The minimum inter-cluster distance was depicted between cluster-V and IV.

Genetic divergence among forty four genotypes of paprika was assessed using Mahalanobis D2 statistic for twenty characters at Horticultural Research Station, Lam, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Fifty-six diverse genotypes of cucumber collected from different indigenous sources were planted in randomized block design, during kharif season at Kittur Rani Chennamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, Belagavi district (Karnataka), India. Studies on genetic divergence in sugarcane plant and ratoon crops involving sixteen genotypes planted at RAU Pusa Farm, Samastipur, Bihar during 2012-13 and their consecutive ratoon during 2013-14 under low land area with water-stagnation 2 to 3 months to select profitable genotypes tolerant to water logging. The present experiment was carried out using twenty-nine elite breeding lines from Station Yield Trial - Slender Grain materials along with three check varieties at the Rice Research Station, O.U.A.T., Bhubaneswar in kharif- 2016. The present investigation aimed to study genetic divergence and clustering pattern of 37super-early pigeon pea genotypes.
