Toluene removal

Three kinds of hierarchical Mordenite Framework Inverted (MFI)-type nanozeolites including Si-MFI, Al-MFI and Ti-MFI were successfully synthesized by two-stage varying temperature hydrothermal treatment. Taking toluene as the probe molecule, a series of methods were used to evaluate the adsorption properties of as-synthesized hierarchical zeolites samples including the adsorption breakthrough curves, simulation of adsorption isotherms as well as kinetics models and toluene-TPD (the temperature programmed desorption of toluene).

In this study, graphene nano particles were synthesized chemically - modified Hummer method and used as the adsorbent to remove toluene and benzene in environment. Obtained nano adsorbents were characterized using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared resonance spectroscopy (FTIR), BrunauerEmmett-Teller analysis (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Petrochemical Industry manufacturing petrochemical product-generate waste containing organic compounds. As the toxicity level of most of these compounds is high, there is an increasing demand for remediation of such sites that involves removal of the offending compounds. Bioremediation uses living systems or biological products to biodegrade waste, with the objective being reduction of waste to chemical forms that can be assimilated into natural cycles. In the present study, the use of micro-organism for bioremediation has been carried out.

In this study, we applied photocatalytic process for degradation of toluene vapor using two types of catalysts: TiO2 nanoparticle (P25) and titania nanotubes (TNTs). TNTs nanomaterial was prepared using P25 as precursor via alkali hydrothermal method. The morphology, particle and tube sizes were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

To prepare the samples of different horizontal layers of bamboo, bottom portion of three year old bamboo was used. The epidermis of the strips was first removed with a fine blade. The epidermis was kept for chemical analysis and the rest of the strips were divided evenly based on volume into inner, middle and outer layers along the radial direction by a fine blade.
