Tomato cultivars for yield
-
A field experiment was conducted at Vegetable Research Centre, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology Pantnagar, U.S. Nagar Uttarakhand, during winter season of 2016-17 to study performance in and outside of poly-house to find out the most suitable and best cultivar, environment and interactions for growth, yield and quality of tomato fruits. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design (R.B.D.) with three replications.

Genetic variability and D2 analysis for yield and quality traits in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)
Forty two genotypes of tomato including four check cultivar (GT-2, GT-6, JT-3 and Pusa Ruby) were planted in Randomized Block Design, during rabi 2018 and were assessed to know the nature and magnitude of variability and genetic divergence for twelve traits. The experimental results revealed a wide range of variability for all the traits under study.

The goal of this investigation was to evaluation of tomato genotypes viz., TODVAR-1, TODVAR-2, TODVAR-3, TODVAR-4, TODVAR-5, TODVAR-6, TODVAR-7, TODVAR-8 and H -86 (C) for their growth, yield and quality under foothills condition of Nagaland state. This experiment was laid out with nine tomato genotypes and three replications. The results showed that there were significant differences in evaluated parameters among cultivars. Among the genotype, TODVAR-8 was found superior genotype and recorded maximum plant height (64.75 cm), number of branches plant-1 (14.22), number of leaves plant-1 (47.

The development of fruits without fertilization is known as parthenocarpy. Parthenocarpy improves the fruit quality, processing attributes, production and productivity of vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber, watermelon etc. Absence of seeds can enhances the shelf life of the fruits, allowing a better conservation, fruit set in adverse climatic conditions, early and offseason production of vegetable crops. Therefore, it is important to ensure yield stability regardless of environmental conditions.

Fourteen genotypes of cherry tomato were evaluated under modified naturally ventilated polyhouse at the Experimental Farm, Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture, CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur during autumn winter season, 2017-2018 for marketable yield and its component traits to assess the morphological diversity among the genotypes. Based on the mean performance, genotypes viz.

To study the performance of different tomato cultivars under organic regimes, an experiment was conducted from 2013 – 2015at the experimental farm of the Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Hill Agricultural Research and Extension Centre, Kullu, India. Among different cultivars, Sioux variety took maximum days (74) from transplanting to first harvest and HeemSohna hybrid took minimum time of 67.2 days.

Alternaria leaf blight of tomato caused by Alternaria solani is a soil inhabiting and airborne pathogen responsible for considerable loss in tomato production. In the absence of resistant cultivars, the use of fungicides and biocontrol agents to control the disease is one exercise training. When there is an epidemic outbreak for some reason, perhaps the use of fungicides are one of the best options available. These fungicides must be used judiciously according to the need, type of body involved and availability of new fungicides.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the most important vegetable crops under solanaceous group which can be grown both under open field conditions and greenhouses. Tomato has achieved high popularity especially in the recent years because of lycopene’s anti-oxidative activities and anti-cancerous functions. The cultivated tomato has been used in genetic studies because of the ease with which it can be easily manipulated and also its diversity present within the population.

The investigation was carried out to study the general combining ability and specific combining ability in genotypes and their cross combinations for yield and quality characters. Six tomato lines, fifteen cross combinations derived from 6×6 half diallel fashion with Arka Rakshak as check cultivar/line were taken for the experiment.
