  • The bioactive properties of cooked and uncooked pulp of Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) were studied. Both cooked tomato pulp (CTP) and uncooked tomato pulp (UTP) had high total phenolic and flavanoid content and antioxidant activity was ascertained by various invitro assays. Gram positive organisms were sensitive to CTP and UTP but the extracts were ineffective against Gram negative bacteria.

  • Bacterial canker of tomato caused by Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm) causes significant yield losses on tomatoes. It is newly observed bacterial disease in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh, India. Few or less work has, therefore, been done on this disease in the state. This study was conducted to find optimum growth conditions for the bacterium. Under present investigations, five isolates of Cmm were thus isolated and maintained in pure cultures.

  • Tomato though botanically a fruit is generally considered as vegetable because of the way in which it is consumed. Fresh tomatoes are very refreshing and appetizing but cannot be stored for a long period. During peak season, about 25% of the produce is spoiled due to mishandling and such losses can be avoided by converting tomatoes into different value added products. Tomato can be processed into pulp, paste, puree, juice, ketchup and sauce. In India, tomato sauce and ketchup are very popular.

  • Survey was conducted during 2014-15 for the isolation of mycoflora from the egg masses of Meloidogyne incognita infecting crops like tomato, brinjal, pea and ameranthus from five different locations viz., Charigaon, Alengmora, Danichopari, Namdeori and Barbheta of Jorhat and Golaghat district of Assam. The egg masses were collected and surface sterilized in 0.4 per cent sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for two minutes. Further these egg masses were washed thoroughly with sterile distilled water until the traces of NaOCl was removed and placed in potato dextrose agar plate.
