  • In the present investigation a total of 100 faecal samples/rectal swabs were collected from dogs suffering with gastrointestinal disorders and showing the symptoms of canine parvovirus, like bloody diarrhoea, vomiting and pyrexia. The samples were tested initially with SYBR green dye based real time PCR with different combinations of the cycles and the results obtained were further confirmed by conventional PCR. We could able to standardize the real time PCR which was more helpful in screening of the faecal samples further in large numbers.

  • Objective of this study was to identify selected species of Cordyceps genus using DNA barcodes. Seven strains of Cordyceps were collected. Total DNA extraction and purification, PCR amplification and DNA sequencing were performed with standard chemicals and kits. The candidate ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region was amplified and sequenced. Data were analyzed using Bioedit 7.2.6 and MEGA 7 softwares. Analysis of seven obtained DNA barcode sequences of collected samples revealed that the ITS1- 5.8S-ITS2 region provided high species discriminating power for Cordyceps genus.

  • During 2015-16 survey was conducted in six different soybean growing areas of Manipur, India. The survey revealed that the maximum mean pod blight intensity was at Thoubal (21.23%) and minimum (13.82%) at Andro Research Farm, CAU. Fusarium oxysporum was isolated and identified by morphological characteristics and gene sequencing, MF512000. The pathogen was found to be the causal organism of pod blight of soybean. Total genomic DNA of the fungal cultures was extracted by using HiPurA DNA isolation Kit (HiMedia, India).

  • The aim of this study was to identify the Complex Vertebral Malformation (CVM) in repeat breeder and anoestrous animals in Maharashtra state region. Total 102 animals of HF crossbred, Dangi, Gaolao and Non- descript were screened from field and cattle dairy farm. CVM is a hereditary recessive disorder in Holstein cattle which have a significant economic impact on dairy cattle breeding worldwide. Fifty repeat breeder and fifty-two anoestrous animals blood DNA were extracted by traditional method. Genotyping was performed by using PCR-RFLP analysis with the help of PstI restriction enzyme.

  • Huanglongbing (HLB) or Citrus Greening Disease is a widespread and serious threat to the Citrus growing industry worldwide due to its complexity and destructiveness. On an average, the disease can cause 30 to 100 per cent yield loss around the globe depending on its severity. In Assam, an important factor associated with Citrus decline is the wide spread prevalence of Huanglongbing (HLB) in Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata). HLB was detected by molecular methods in Khasi mandarin orchards of Assam state in Northeastern India.

  • The aim of this study was to characterize the antimicrobial peptide (bacteriocin) produced by a probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum strain DM 69 isolated from yogurt sample of Odisha. Total DNA of L. plantarum DM 69 was extracted and tested for the presence of bacteriocin genes. PCRamplified DNA showed a single band in gel which partially confirmed the presence of Plantaricin gene responsible for showing antimicrobial activity.

  • Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) production is constrained by a myriad of biotic and abiotic stresses which necessitate the development and use of superior varieties for increased yield. Germplasm characterisation both at the phenotypic and molecular level becomes important in all plant breeding programs. The aim of this study was to characterise groundnut genotypes at molecular level using simple sequence repeats (SSR). A total of 30 SSR markers were screened and 20 were found to be polymorphic with an average polymorphic information content (PIC) value of 0.57.

  • Significant morphological similarities within or in between species of insects has made reliable taxonomic identification difficult. DNA barcoding has appeared to be a useful tool in resolving the issues related to the identification of taxonomically difficult insect species. The Northeastern region of India is one of the mega biodiversity hotspots in the World and the climatic conditions of the region are highly conducive for reproduction and multiplication of insects.
