Studies were carried out on the trace metal contamination of Sarotherodon melanotheron from Alaro stream in Ibadan, Nigeria. Fish were collected between January and December 2003 (Dry and rainy season).Muscle, liver, bone, gills, gut and fins were analyzed for arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) using the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS).

This unique cross-border study documented metal contamination of drinking water and locally grown vegetables near mining activities in Zambia and DRC, with the contamination being worse in DRC. The higher pollution observed in DRC compared to Zambia must largely be attributed to differences in environmental governance between the two countries.

In this study, characterization of PM10 mass and its trace metals concentration at road sites in Bac Giang province located in the North of Vietnam during two different seasons has been performed. PM10 samples at 11 road sites using the high volume SIBATA HV-500R (Japan) at the flow rate of 400 L/min were collected during 10 hours (from 7:00 to 17:00) at flat low-lying plain, midland, mountain and highland areas.

Chicken eggs are one of the main sources of protein but if contaminated by toxic heavy metals due to industrial waste, geochemical structures and agricultural activities is a serious problem for environmental and human health. The aim of our study is focused on evaluating the trace elements level in eggs that collected from the retail outlets in and around Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. The concentrations of As, Cr, Cu, Cd, Mn, Ni, Pb and Fe were measured using Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectrometry.

The generation of wastes as a result of human activities has been continuously speeding up since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Hence, both optimized waste water treatment technologies and modern tools to assess the effects of pollution sources are necessary to prevent the contamination of aquatic ecosystems The book offers an interdisciplinary collection of topics concerning waste water treatment technologies, water quality monitoring and evaluation of waste water impact on natural environments.

The residence time that contaminants and nutrients remain in lichen tissue differs among elements (Pucket 1985). Macronutrients, such as nitrogen, sulfur, potassium, magnesium and calcium are comparatively mobile and easily leached and therefore measurable changes in tissue concentrations can occur over weeks or months with seasonal changes in deposition (Boongaprob et al. 1989). In one study, mobile elements reached the same levels in transplants as the indigenous lichens within four to six months (Palomäki et al. 1992).

Mining wastes can cause significant ecological destruction. Often, solid mine wastes are dumped into streams, destroying habitat and causing siltation and heavy metal and other contamination. Even when such wastes are stored out of water channels, trace materials can leach into surface waters and infiltrate into local groundwater. Fine- grained tailings can wash into local waterways and degrade streams by covering and filling coarser-grained substrates.
