The objective of this paper is to analyze the fluctuations of the Vietnam - ASEAN trade balance in the period of 2011 - 2019, especially analyzing the impact of the trade tensions between the US and China on the Vietnam - ASEAN trade balance. Accordingly, the paper analyzes the impact of trade activities on the economy of Vietnam and ASEAN countries.

Thus, policy coherence is essential. However, tensions may arise from real or perceived trade‑offs between various policy objectives ‑ for instance, between food security and water productivity.
