  • Farmers’ participatory front line demonstrations on method of sowing paddy with D.S.R. machine and traditional method of transplanting as local check were conducted at ten location during kharif (2014 and 2015) under CCS, HAU, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehabad, Haryana. The study reveals that on an average 52.07 q/ha yield of paddy (var. PUSA-1121) was recorded in demonstration plot as compare to 51.64 q/ha in local check which was 0.9 per cent higher over that of the local check. The data on economic parameters reveals that a net return of Rs.55033 per ha was in demonstration compare to Rs.

  • Ginger, an indigenous plant, is an important spice crop of the world. Traditionally ginger is propagated by using portions of mother rhizomes called as sets. Each healthy set of 2.5 to 5 cm long, weighing 20-25 g and having two or three buds each are directly sown in the main filed. Though transplanting in ginger is not conventional, it is found profitable. A transplanting technique in ginger by using single bud sprouts (about 5 g) has been standardized to produce good quality planting material with reduced cost.

  • Vegetables are the cheapest source of natural nutrients. To achieve true nutritional selfsufficiency, the production of vegetables in India must be doubled by 2050. This can be achieved through better cultivation practices. In India most of the vegetable crops are transplanted by traditional manual method; which is a tiresome and labour consuming process. Thus mechanization of vegetable transplanting is an immediate need. On the way of mechanization lies the marginal land holdings and poor socio- economic status of farmers.

  • In srikakulam district of andhra pradesh, paddy is major important crop during kharif cultivated in an area of 2,01,148 ha out of total cropped area of 2,66,433 ha with productivity of 4587 kg/ha. In the district, traditional method of paddy cultivation, adoption of more seed rate, late transplanting with over aged seedlings, close spacing coupled with scarcity of labour and escalation in labor wages, reduction in labor efficiency are leading to lower yields and low net returns, besides that farmers are distressed to cultivate paddy.

  • The farmers under Upper Krishna command areas are experiencing severe water scarcity, high labour cost and unavailability of labour for agricultural production due to adverse climate change. To overcome this problem, Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) method was introduce under UKP command areas.The average crop yield of paddy under DSR method was 5.85 and 6.20 t.ha-1 andin Transplanting Practices(TP) it was 5.23 and 5.45 t.ha1 during kharif 2018 and 2019 respectively against potential yield of 7.5 t.ha-1 .

  • Rice-Wheat cropping system pre-dominated in the India covering an area of about 10.5 million hectare. Adverse effect of continuous puddling in rice field forced scientists to search for other methods of rice establishment like direct seeding; machines transplanted and dry seeding with ZT machine and wheat by zero tillage etc. In a 3‐year study, we assessed the effects of crop establishment methods in participatory mode on farmers’ field through on farm on productivity and profitability in a rice–wheat (RW) system at Basti, Siddharthnagar and Gorakhpur district of U.P.
