Processing methods affect starch hydrolysis, digestibility, absorption and glycaemic index (GI) of food. Although some studies have reported on the effect of boiling, frying, roasting and baking on glycaemic index of traditional staples, there is limited information on the contribution of drying, fermentation, boiling and steaming on starch bioavailability and glycaemic index.

This study aims to develop an HPFRM with low polypropylene fiber content by using locally available ingredients in Southern Vietnam to address the deficiencies commonly observed in traditional cement grout mortars. Three mixture proportions were prepared with different water-to-binder (w/b) ratios of 0.2, 0.25, and 0.3. Then, the performance of HPFRM was evaluated in both fresh and hardened stages.

The aims were to evaluate the impact of organic, conventional and traditional production systems on yield, proximate composition and mineral content of tubers and soil physico-chemical and biological properties in greater yam (Dioscorea alata). Organic farming (35.14 t ha-1 ) produced significantly higher yield over conventional practice (28.17 t ha-1 ) by 24%. A net profit of Rs 3,16,534 ha-1 , which was 38% higher over chemical based farming was obtained under organic management in greater yam Tuber quality was improved with slightly higher dry matter, starch and crude protein contents.

An alarming fall in groundwater table in Northwest India demands a major shift from traditional method of rice cultivation to direct seeding of rice. Dry-seeded rice has emerged as a viable option to save water, labour, energy and time. Proper tillage and irrigation practices are needed to improve water productivity in dry-seeded rice through reduction in emergence of weeds and reduce ground water depletion and pesticide use. A field experiment was conducted at the research farm of the Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University...

In this research, the performance of a cementless eco-binder, a mixture of waste materials including slag, circulating fluidized bed combustion ash (CFA), and rice husk ash (RHA) was investigated, in which CFA acted as an activator. One hundred and twenty paste samples were prepared by using the RHA/(slag + RHA) ratios of 0, 15, 30, 45% while keeping a constant ratio of CFA/(slag + RHA) at 25%. The setting period, compressive strength, the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), and drying shrinkage of paste samples were determined at the samples’ age of up to 91 days.
