The development of lactic fermentations for transformation and bio conservation of meat, part of the indigenous flora of the 'Kaddid' is very promotable, due to their adaptability to the conditions of fermentation. The objective of this study is the selection of indigenous strains of the Lactobacillus genus highly acidifying by phenotypic and biochemical methods.

Previously, we could show that L-lactate affects cultured bovine granulosa cells (GC) in a specific manner driving the cells into an early pre-ovulatory phenotype. Here we studied genome wide effects in L-lactatetreated GC to further elucidate the underlying mechanisms that are responsible for the L-lactate induced transformation.

Growth regulation is a complex process influenced by genetic and environmental factors. We examined differences between growth hormone (GH) transgenic (T) and non-transgenic (NT) coho salmon to elucidate whether the same loci were involved in controlling body size and gene expression phenotypes, and to assess whether physiological transformations occurring from GH transgenesis were under the influence of alternative pathways.

Finding genes that are differentially expressed between conditions is an integral part of understanding the molecular basis of phenotypic variation. In the past decades, DNA microarrays have been used extensively to quantify the abundance of mRNA corresponding to different genes, and more recently high-throughput sequencing of cDNA (RNA-seq) has emerged as a powerful competitor.

Rapid screening for phenotype-genotype associations by linear transformations of genomic evaluations
Currently, association studies are analysed using statistical mixed models, with marker effects estimated by a linear transformation of genomic breeding values. The variances of marker effects are needed when performing the tests of association.

Bioimage classification is a fundamental problem for many important biological studies that require accurate cell phenotype recognition, subcellular localization, and histopathological classification. In this paper, we present a new bioimage classification method that can be generally applicable to a wide variety of classification problems.

Various chromatin modifications, identified in large-scale epigenomic analyses, are associated with distinct phenotypes of different cells and disease phases. To improve our understanding of these variations, many computational methods have been developed to discover novel sites and cell-specific chromatin modifications.

Partial loss of Smad signaling during in vitro progression of HPV16-immortalized human keratinocytes
Disruption of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway is observed in many cancers, including cervical cancer, resulting in TGF-β resistance. While normal human keratinocytes (HKc) and human papillomavirus type 16-immortalized HKc (HKc/HPV16) are sensitive to the growth inhibitory effects of TGF-β, HKc/HPV16 develop resistance to TGF-β1 as they progress in vitro to a differentiation resistant phenotype (HKc/DR).

Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) belongs to the transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) family of proteins. BMPs regulate cell proliferation, differentiation and motility, and have also been reported to be involved in cancer pathogenesis.

Strongly increased uptake of glucose is a hallmark of solid malignant tumors. This phenotype can be triggered by hypoxia-induced gene expression changes or can occur independently of hypoxia as a consequence of malignant transformation itself, and is often referred to as the Warburg effect.

Epigenetic modifications play important roles in the regulation of gene expression determining cellular phenotype as well as various pathologies such as cancer. Although the loss of keratin 13 (KRT13) is reportedly linked to malignant transformation of oral epithelial cells, the molecular mechanisms through which KRT13 is repressed in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain unclear.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of liver cancer and the third most lethal cancer worldwide. The epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) describes the transformation of well-differentiated epithelial cells to a de-differentiated phenotype and plays a central role in the invasion and intrahepatic metastasis of HCC cells.

The genus Theileria includes tick-transmitted Apicomplexan parasites of ruminants with substantial economic impact in endemic countries. Amongst the Apicomplexa phylum, Theileria is the only genus which transforms its mammalian host cells. Theileria parva and Theileria annulata infect leukocytes where they induce phenotypes that are shared with some cancers such as immortalization, dissemination and hyper proliferation. Transformation of lymphocytes is induced during the schizont stage.

Homologous transformation sterility-1 (HTS-1) is a novel wheat mutant that exhibits pistillody, the transformation of stamens into pistils or pistil-like structures. More extreme phenotypes of this mutation can have six pistils or pistil-like structures without any stamens in a floret.

HR12 is anovel farnesyltransferase inhibitor (FTI).Wehave shown previously that HR12 induces phenotypic reversion of H-ras V12 -transformed Rat1 (Rat1/ras) fibroblasts. This reversion was characterized by formation of cell–cell con-tacts, focal adhesions and stress fibers. Here we show that HR12 inhibits anchorage independent and dependent growth of Rat1/ras cells. HR12 also suppresses motility and proliferation of Rat1/ras cells, in a wound healing assay. Rat1 fibroblasts transformed with myristoylated H-ras V12 (Rat1/myr-ras) were resistant to HR12....

The cloning of two novel genes that encode cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (CKX) in barley is described in this work. Transformation of both genes intoArabidopsisand tobacco showed that at least one of the genes codes for a functional enzyme, as its expression caused a cytokinin-deficient phenotype in the heterologous host plants. Addi-tional cloning of two gene fragments, and anin silicosearch in the public expressed sequence tag clone databases, revealed the presence of at least 13 more members of the CKXgene family in barley and wheat. ...

4-Hydroxy-2-trans-nonenal (4-HNE), one of the major end products of lipid peroxidation, has been shown to induce apoptosis in a variety of cell lines. It appears to modulate signalingprocesses inmore thanonewaybecause it has been suggested to have a role in signaling for differentiation and proliferation. We showfor the first time that incorporation of 4-HNE-metabolizing glutathioneS-transferase (GST) isozyme, hGSTA4-4, into adherent cell lines HLE B-3 and CCL-75, by either cDNA transfection or microinjection of active enzyme, leads to their transformation. ...

The putative CLL precursor could be an antigen-experienced CD27+ B cell, expanded either in the course of a GC B-cell T-dependent or T-independent response by chronic antigen- stimulation through extrinsic or autoantigens. Over time, genetic abnormalities may accumulate in the genome of these chronically stimulated B cells and lead to the outgrow of clones with MBL phenotype. Additional genetic aberrations may be incorporated in the course of proliferation leading to the oncogenic hit that transform these precursor in bona fide CLL cells. ...
