In ebook "In-situ small-angle X-ray scattering investigation of transient nanostructure of multi-phase polymer materials under mechanical deformation" the evolution of the materials structure is visualized and quantitatively analyzed from exhaustive sequences of scattering images. Three different classes of polymer composites are presented as typical and illustrative examples. The obtained results illustrate that the interactions of their components can cause unpredictable structural effects, ultimately leading to a weakening of the material, where a reinforcement was expected.

Ebook "Electron microscopy in heterogeneous catalysis (Series in Microscopy in materials science)" addresses a number of issues that are fundamental to the understanding of heterogeneous catalysis by oxides and supported metals. The properties of a catalyst are governed by its microstructure and chemistry on an atomic scale, and electron microscopy methods are essential to directly analyze these properties.

Ebook "Biofilm highlights" hot spots in current biofilm research are presented in critical and sometimes provocative chapters. This serves a twofold purpose: to provide an overview and to inspire further discussions. Above all, the book seeks to stimulate lateral thinking. Living in biofilms is the common way of life of microorganisms, transiently immobilized in their matrix of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), interacting in many ways and using the matrix as an external digestion and protection system.

Cells in every epithelium can be roughly divided in three compartments: stem cell (SC) compartment, transient amplifying cell (TA) compartment and terminally differentiated (TD) compartment. Maturation of stem cells is characterized by epithelial stromal interaction and sequential maturational movement of stem cell’s progeny through those compartments.

Upon the search for a suitable processing method for cellulose, the dissolution in NaOH(aq) presents a real green potential, including its ability to sorb environmental CO2(g) affecting dissolution. Here, CO2(g) was delivered in a controlled way to the cellulose/NaOH(aq) system during the in-situ analysis with FTIR, pH and temperature meters, resulting in efficient coagulation of cellulose.

This paper presents the study on developing the physics core, control module, and human-machine interface (HMI) of DalatSim. The nodalization of DNRR used for DalatSim was based on the reported numerical model in the Safety Analysis Report (SAR) in 2012. DalatSim can simulate operational procedures and several hypothetical transient accidents of DNRR.

Proteins dynamically interact with each other to perform their biological functions. The dynamic operations of protein interaction networks (PPI) are also reflected in the dynamic formations of protein complexes. Existing protein complex detection algorithms usually overlook the inherent temporal nature of protein interactions within PPI networks.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, which consist of three functionally associated protein kinases, namely MEKKs, MKKs and MPKs, are universal signaling modules in all eukaryotes and have been shown to play critical roles in many physiological and biochemical processes in plants.

A self-similarity approximation model for three-wave resonant interaction in transient backward stimulated Raman scattering (BSRS) was derived. Interestingly, as its asymptotic solution, the train of solitary backward Raman pulse train is possibly formed. This result can be considered as an increment of “single” solitons observed previously.

Minichromosomemaintenance (MCM) proteins are part of the replication licensing factor (RLF-M), which limits the initiationofDNAreplication to once per cell cycle. We have previously reported that higher order complexes of mam-malian pol II and general pol II transcription factors, referred to as pol II holoenzyme, also contain MCM pro-teins. In the present study we have analyzed in detail the interaction between MCM2 and pol II holoenzyme. N- and C- terminal deletions were introduced into epitope-tagged MCM2 and the truncated proteins were transiently expressed in 293 cells. ...

Glutamine synthetase (GS) is expressed at high levels in subsets of cells in some tissues and at low levels in all cells of other tissues, suggesting that the GS gene is surrounded by multiple regulatory elements. We searched for such elements in the 2.5-kbupstreamregionand in the 2.6-kbfirst intronof theGSgene, usingFTO-2Bhepatoma andC2/7muscle cells as representatives of both cell types and transient transfec-tion assays as our tools.

With the amount of genetic information available, a lot of attention has focused on systems biology, in particular biomolecular interactions. Con-sidering the huge number of such interactions, and their often weak and transient nature, conventional experimental methods such as X-ray crystal-lography and NMR spectroscopy are not sufficient to gain structural insight into these. A wealth of biochemical and⁄or biophysical data can, however, readily be obtained for biomolecular complexes.

There is mounting evidence that the vanilloid (capsaicin) receptor; transient receptor potential channel, vanilloid subfamily member 1 (TRPV1), is subjected to multiple interacting levels of control. The first level is by reversible phosphorylation catalyzed by intrinsic kinases (e.g. protein kinase A and C) and phosphatases (e.g. calcineurin), which plays a pivotal role in receptor sensitization vs. tachyphy-laxis.

Much work has focused on the electrophysiological properties of transient receptor potential channels. Recently, a novel aspect of importance emerged: the interplay of transient receptor potential channels with the cytoskeleton. Recent data suggest a direct interaction and functional reper-cussion for both binding partners.
