Transitional economy of Vietnam

This paper examines the role of bank credit to the private sector and private-sector investment in the transition to a low-carbon economy in Vietnam regarding other macroeconomic factors, such as GDP growth rate and electricity consumption from renewable energy. From 1986 to 2021, chronological classification was used. Through the ARDL regression model, the experimental results show that in the short term, credit to the private sector and private-sector investment initially help the economic transition to be effective.

This paper aims to propose financial solutions to support Vietnam in making the transition to a low-carbon economy as committed at COP 26 - 2021. By using statistical methods and analyzing secondary financial data, the author has indicated three financial challenges that Vietnam is facing, which are: (i) the lack of public investment capital in the transition fossil energy to renewable energy; (ii) the immaturity of the green financial Market; and (iii) the paucity of foreign green investment capital sources.

This document describes the main challenges that Vietnam’s cities and regions are facing in the transition from a linear to a circular economy. By using the qualitative research methods (interview stakeholders; collect relevant information from secondary documents) and quantitative research method (surveys in 51 cities and regions), the article focuses on five main categories of gaps: policy, awareness, capacity, regulatory and funding.

By reviewing an amount of macro indicators of Vietnam involved in PESTLE from 2005, combining with FDI data in country level, the result has shown that (i) every six points in PESTLE framework have been in relation with FDI inflow into Vietnam; and (ii) AEC commitments have been broadening the PESTLE hexagon of Vietnam to attract FDI, especially in terms of economic and legal angles.

This paper will analyze the ways in which social capital have impacts on the job of graduates through the whole process of job seeking. In doing so, we use a mixed methodology which includes (i) quantitative method with 549 observations; (ii) qualitative method with a sample of 13 respondents involved in 1-1.5-hour in-depth interviews. We conclude that the use of network in many different forms is still fruitful for job seekers.

The study in this paper examines the causality relationship between exporting and firm productivity in an emerging market economy on the path of trade liberalization and market-oriented transition reforms. To achieve this purpose, we focused on testing whether only the most productive firms can overcome a productivity threshold to enter export markets (self-selection) or whether firms that enter export markets observe a subsequent productivity improvement (learning by exporting) using a panel data of firm-level data of manufacturing firms in Vietnam during the period 2007-2013.

The second essay examines the effect of banking system reform, which is defined by the presence of foreign banks, on investment-cash flow relation in a context of a small transition economy. I find evidence that the presence of foreign banks in Vietnam results in decreasing in firm’s dependence on local banks and has changed their financial constraint. Company investments are less reliant on internal cash flow in the post reform period.

This study investigates how Vietnamese commercial banks respond to countercyclical monetary policy. At first glance, the empirical findings suggest the asymmetrical response of Vietnamese commercial banks to countercyclical monetary policy to be competitive and monetary authority successfully utilizes monetary policy instruments to achieve its objectives. In light of the known characteristics of the Vietnamese economy, the empirical results may be alternatively interpreted as the consequence of graft maximizing behavior of bank management operating in a corrupt and opaque environment.

Employing a sample of Vietnamese banks covering the period 2005 to 2015, this study investigates the influence of bank ownership and financial liberalisation measures on banking efficiency and contributes to the literature in two important respects. First, this paper broadens our understanding of the liberalisation process in the banking sector of a developing transition economy.
