Graduation thesis "A study on English to Vietnamese translation of noun phrases in J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter" was carried out for the purpose of comparing English nouns and equivalent elements in Vietnamese. Comparing the translation of nouns in English and Vietnamese texts contributes to the common study of both languages on two aspects: teaching and translation.

Case study "Investigating EFL teachers’ knowledge about theories of language and pedagogy: A case study at the Faculty of Foreign Language of a Private University" aims to investigate EFL teachers’ knowledge about theories of language and their awareness of pedagogy in relation to teaching English as a foreign language in the context of one faculty in a private university in Vietnam. The data were transcribed, language translated and imported into NVivo 12 Plus software for coding and analysis.

This study aims at further exploring the effectiveness of translation as a pedagogic tool in an EFL class for Vietnamese non-English majored students. After comparing the students’ performance after learning through translation method and other methods with no use of L1, it seems that the students who were taught using translation tasks were able to use items of vocabulary and language structures they have just learned more frequently and precisely.

This article presents a contrastive analysis of conceptual metaphors (CMs) denoting the concept of “Life” in English and Vietnamese lyric songs. Based on the theoretical background of many linguists, especially Lakoff and Johnson (1980), Lee (2001), Kovêcses (2005, 2010), as well as the data collected from the questionnaire and interviews, the study investigates and explores the similarities and differences in CMs of “Life” between the two languages from the cognitive perspective.

English listening is very helpful to all students to deepen or to improve their language skill although it is usually considered a passive skill. In high school, listening plays a minor role, which leads to big troubles in listening comprehension when students enter universities. To cultivate the students listening skill, the teacher is supposed to be imaginative and creative in developing their teaching methods to create good atmosphere and make English lessons more exiting.

To conduct a cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Core Outcome Measures Index (COMI) in the Slovenian language, for use in patients with low back pain. Methods: The English version of COMI was translated into Slovene following established guidelines. Three hundred fifty-three patients with chronic low back pain were recruited from the Orthopedic clinic department of a tertiary care teaching institution.

The study found that students diverted their attention from linguistic problems to other non-linguistic ones (extralinguistic issues related to extratextual features and general style conventions) after the workshops. This change led to some students’ attempts to avoid word-forword translation and produce more idiomatic translation solutions as shown in the analysis of titles. Recommendations were made on the inclusion of text analysis and problem identification in developing students’ translation skills.

This pape~ describes an "intelligent" tutor of foreign language concepts and skills based upon state-of-the-art research in Intelligent reaching Systems and Computational Linguistics. The tutor is part of a large R&D project in ITS which resulted in a system (called DART~ for the design and development of intelligent teaching dialogues on PLATO I and in a program (called ELISA~ for teaching foreign language conjunctions in context. ELISA was able to teach a few conjunctions in English, Dutch and Italian.

The GTI~syst~m is a tree-to-tree transducer developed for teaching purposes in machine translation. The transducer is a specialized production system giving the linguists the tools for expressing infon~ation in a syntax that is close to theoretical linguistics.
