  • 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of the discovery of Hatch-Slack pathway, more popularly known as the C4 photosynthetic pathway in sugarcane leaves. Since then, there had been a significant development in understanding the C4 syndrome and its evolutionary background. C4 photosynthesis produces almost a quarter of the world’s entire primary productivity, despite having merely a few plant lineages to compete with. This clearly depicts the extraordinary capacity of the system to effectively trap carbon and converting it into plant biomass.

  • The potato is a starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial nightshade Solanum tuberosum. Potato has high level moisture content, hence it is perishable crop. Blanching is an unit operation prior to freezing, canning, drying in which fruit and vegetables are heated for the purpose of inactivate enzymes; modifying texture; preserving colour, flavour and nutritional value; and removing trapped air. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of pre-treatments on quality of dried potato slices.

  • Incidence of fruit fly and damage intensity in guava (Psidium guajava L.) in orchards of Eastern India, Ranchi were studied during rainy and winter season in 2013 and 2014 under ICAR-RCER. The observations were recorded on number of flowers and fruits per plants, indicated that flowers and fruit were higher in number in rainy season. However, the weights of fruits were high in winter season as compared to rainy. The number of fruits drop were recorded higher in rainy season about 7.72 % in normal planting and 8.85 % in high density planting in first year study (2013).
