The Asarum L. genus includes 128 species with many medicinal effects. It has been used extensively in folk prescriptions to treat several diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, rheumatism, and hepatitis. Many kinds of research showed that the Asarum L. species have many essential oils such as myristicin, methyl eugenol, myrcene, asafrol, borneol, safrol, or α-pinene, and substances such as sesquiterpenes, sterols, naringenin, or glycosyl flavonoids.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory arthritis, with significant impact on quality of life and functional status. Whilst biologic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARD) such as tumour necrosis factor-inhibitor (TNFi) agents have revolutionised outcomes in RA, early diagnosis with immediate conventional therapy, titrated in a treat to target approach is also associated with high remission rates.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), including those treated with biologics, are at increased risk of some vaccine-preventable infections. We evaluated the antibody response to standard 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) and the 2011–2012 trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine in adults with RA receiving subcutaneous (SC) abatacept and background disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs).

Symptoms and prognosis of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have improved with more intensive therapy, including the biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs). Real life data concerning how comorbidities are distributed among patients treated or not treated with bDMARDs are scarce.

The rhizome of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels (Umbelliferae) is known as "Danggui" in China, has been used widely in traditional Chinese medicine to treat irregular menstruation, anaemia, headache, hypertension, chronic asthma and rheumatism. From the ethyl acetate extract of its roots four phthalides have been isolated. Their structures were identified by MS and NMR spectroscopic methods to be (Z)-3-butylidenphthalide, senkyunolide H, senkyunolide I and dihydroxyligustilide.

The most important treatment of acute rheumatic fever is prevention, associated with improvements in socioeconomic conditions. Once acute rheumatic fever has occurred, treatment includes penicillin to eradicate the streptococcal infection, high dose aspirin as an anti-inflammatory drug, or steroids if the cardiac disease is severe. Heart failure is treated with diuretics, and urgent heart valve replacement may occasionally be required.
