Nigeria’s under-fve health outcomes have improved over the years, but the mortality rates remain unacceptably high. The qualitative component of Nigeria’s 2019 verbal and social autopsy (VASA) showed that car‑egivers’ health beliefs about causes of illnesses and efficacious treatment options contribute to non-use/delay in use of facility-based healthcare for under-fve children.

Adherence to treatment is often reported to be low in children with cystic fibrosis. Adherence in cystic fibrosis is an important research area and more research is needed to better understand family barriers to adherence in order for clinicians to provide appropriate intervention.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic inflammatory disease causing joint damage, disability, and reduced life expectancy. Highly effective drugs are now available for the treatment of RA. However, poor adherence to drug regimens remains a significant barrier to improving clinical outcomes in RA.

Use of conservative treatment modalities in osteoarthritis (OA) is suboptimal, which appears to be partly due to patients’ beliefs about treatments. The aim of this study was to develop a research instrument assessing patients’ beliefs about various treatment modalities of hip and knee OA: The ‘Treatment beliefs in OA (TOA) questionnaire’.

Subgrouping patients with chronic low back pain is recommended prior to selecting treatment strategy, and fear avoidance beliefs is a commonly addressed psychological factor used to help this subgrouping. The results of the predictive value of fear avoidance beliefs in patients with chronic low back pain in prognostic studies are, however, not in concordance.

One approach to improving the personalized treatment of cancer is to understand the cellular signaling transduction pathways that cause cancer at the level of the individual patient. In this study, we used unsupervised deep learning to learn the hierarchical structure within cancer gene expression data.

Cervical cancer is a global public health problem and the second most common cancer causing morbidity and mortality in Ethiopia. Few available evidences revealed that despite distribution and severity of cervical cancer among HIV-positive women and the ease with which it can be prevented, cervical cancer screening practice in Ethiopia among them is considerably low.

Research and cancer care are closely intertwined; however, it is not clear whether physicians and nurses believe that clinical trials offer the best treatment for patients and, if so, whether this belief is justified.

Mental illness effects every segment of population including young adults. The beliefs held by young patients regarding the causes of mental illness impact their treatment-seeking behaviour. It is pertinent to know the commonly held attributions around mental illness so as to effectively provide psychological care, especially in a resource constrained context such as Kenya.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) represents a unique clinical challenge for patients and health care providers due to unclear etiology and lack of specific treatment. Characteristic patterns of behavior and cognitions might be related to how CFS patients respond to management strategies.

In this paper a new fuzzy model (FMOTPD2) is developed and by this model the measures of beliefs are determined so that one of the groups of possible therapeutic procedures is optimal for each patient of type 2 diabetes on hospital treatment. The choice of therapeutic procedure on individual level, which is one of the demands of modern medicine, means that each therapeutic procedure is to be evaluated by multiple and different criteria.

The extent of pollution and toxicity depends upon the raw material used, pulping method, and pulp bleaching process adapted by the pulp and paper mills. For example, the pollution load from hardwood is lower than softwood. On the other hand, the spent liquor generated from pulping of nonwood fiber has a high silica content. Volumes of wastewater discharged may vary from near zero to 400 m3 per ton of pulp depending on the raw material used, manufacturing process, and size of the mill [6].

Technology-based standards are designed to facilitate the use of known, effective, demonstrated pollution prevention and control technologies. The release standards for new and existing pulp mills in Alberta were adopted after evaluation of technologies and wastewater treatment systems for Alberta pulp and paper mills, and top performing mills throughout the United States and Europe (see Appendix 1). The data for European mills are performance expectations and do not represent the regulatory standards that may be applied.

These guidelines are important particularly for the design of organisations that will interface with the SME sector. Additionally, important general factors in supporting the development of an entrepreneurial society are positive entrepreneurial personal role models for individuals to follow, entrepreneurial attitudes among all relevant stakeholders, local empowerment, a greater belief in ‘trust’ than in regulations and the encouragement of initiative at all levels. The education system is commonly regarded as the starting point for the creation of enterprise culture.

During the last 20 years, a relatively small number of companies have integrated social and environmental policies in their business model 1 and operations, on a voluntarily basis. We posit that these policies reflect the underlying culture of the organization, a culture of sustainability where environmental and social performances, in addition to financial performance, are important. These policies also forge a stronger culture of sustainability by making explicit the values and beliefs that underlie the mission of the organization.

Herbs and traditional medicines are being extensively used for healthcare in almost all the countries since times immemorial. Ancient religious texts are replete with references on the use of natural products with medicinal properties. Because of local beliefs and practices and also from cost considerations herbal medicines remain a popular mode of treatment in the developing countries. Even in the industrialised society the rising cost of prescription drugs and ensuing side effects of the treatment make it highly attractive to use the traditional medicine particularly for minor ailments....

Each of us has some beliefs and assumptions about health and illness that are ours alone, and others that we share with members of our cultural group. When one person experiences stomach pains, he may take an antacid. Another might consult an urgent care nurse. Others may fix an herbal tea, visit a shaman, or take acupuncture treatment. Some will do nothing, even when the pain becomes intense, perhaps because their culture views the expression of pain as a sign of weakness.
