Constraints in migratory capabilities, such as the disruption of gene flow and genetic connectivity caused by habitat fragmentation, are known to affect genetic diversity and the long-term persistence of populations. Although negative population trends due to ongoing forest loss are widespread, the consequence of habitat fragmentation on genetic diversity, gene flow and genetic structure has rarely been investigated in Bornean small mammals.

Some species are exceptionally common in landscapes heavily impacted by humans, such as agricultural lands. This study was carried out over a period of 2 years (July 2012 to June 2014) in the arid agricultural landscape of Pothwar Plateau, Pakistan, to identify adaptations that govern bird distribution and abundance across 2 different cropping systems associated with differences in water availability. We used regular surveys and foraging observations to quantify species abundance, distribution, and habits. We then examined morphological correlations with ecological attributes.

Crape myrtles, belonging to the genus Lagerstroemia L., have beautiful paniculate inflorescences and are cultivated as important ornamental tree species for landscaping and gardening. However, the phylogenetic relationships within Lagerstroemia have remained unresolved likely caused by limited sampling and the insufficient number of informative sites used in previous studies.

The study applied the soil, land and topographic data for analyzing the potentiality of land for trees /crops suitability in the Gumla district of Jharkhand, India. The remote sensing, GIS and GIS modeling techniques were used to achieve the goal. The soil fertility, soil wetness, and slope map are scientifically produced and integrated to find out the landscape suitable categories for prioritization of trees/crops scaling in the agroforestry domain. Additionally, we have examined the drift of loss of soil wetness using satellite data from monsoon to postmonsoon period up to the village level.

Genomic-scale sequence alignments are increasingly used to infer phylogenies in order to better understand the processes and patterns of evolution. Different partitions within these new alignments (e.g., genes, codon positions, and structural features) often favor hundreds if not thousands of competing phylogenies.

Ravine ecosystems are highly dynamic and completely deformatted terrain landscape. In these regions, Indigenous plant species are playing significant role in environmental rehabilitation because of their exultant survival and high adaptation to local conditions. Despite this, very little information’s available about existence of medicinal plants on the typical ravine flora. The present study attempted to explore the diversity and distribution of medicinal plant flora in the Yamuna ravines of Agra (U.P) and Chambal ravines of Kota district (Rajasthan).

Acrocarpus fraxinifolius is an important tropical timber species mainly found in Asia and is a fast growing tree species found naturally in India, Chaina, Burma and Sumatra. In Karnataka, the species is extensively cultivated in coffee plantations due to its desirability in the rainy season that favours coffee growth. The species is also to the smaller extent noticed in natural forests and sacred groves of Kodagu district, Karnataka, India.

On the 30th of July, 1914, motoring north from Poitiers, we had lunched somewhere by the roadside under apple-trees on the edge of a field. Other fields stretched away on our right and left to a border of woodland and a village steeple. All around was noonday quiet, and the sober disciplined landscape which the traveller's memory is apt to evoke as distinctively French.

Vietnam has been reforming its forest management in favour of household and local organization (Barney 2005). The government increasingly gives local people the right to manage the forests. Unfortunately, in this changing environment, recognition of local people’s rights is still limited and local knowledge and perspectives are rarely taken into account by the state institutions implementing land titling and decentralization. The challenge is to better inform each stakeholder on the perspectives of people living in and near the forest on the natural resources and landscapes.

Chapter One PART ONE CHAPTER ONE A murder of crows swore at each other in the trees that lined the banks of the River Kelvin. A freezing drizzle from a low sky bleached the landscape to grey. Nothing, Lindsay thought, could be further from California. The only thing in common with the home she'd left three months before was the rhythm of her feet as she ran her daily two miles. On mornings like this, Lindsay found it hard to remember that she'd once loved this city. When she'd come back to Scotland after university and journalism training, she'd thought Glasgow...

Some persons enjoy landscapes rather like big art. Landscape paintings give us a taste for the real thing. What we want is not ecology, but natural art. Consider the autumn leaves in their colour, so much admired by my mother and father, indeed by us all. If one is a formalist, then it does not matter how the landscape originated. Find a vantage point where trees near and far, foreground and background, are pleasantly framed, and admire the vista. The historical genesis is irrelevant. A drive through the countryside is something like a walk through a museum of landscape paintings....

At this stage, 'gross' means prior to integration into the calculation of the other factors that limit the accessibility of the carbon resource: access to other services and maintenance of ecosystem functions. This integration will be done by weighting the gross potential with indexes extracted from tables [C], [D] and [E]: Ecosystem Accessible Water Surplus (EAWS), Landscape Ecosystem Potential (LEP), Rivers Ecosystem Potential (REP) and Ecosystem Biodiversity Rating (EBR).

This thesis investigates the protection landscape surrounding online banking. First, electronic banking is analysed for vulnerabilities and a survey of current attacks is carried out. This is represented graphically as an attack tree describing the different ways in which online transactions can be attacked. The discussion then moves on to various defences which have been developed, categorizing them and analyzing how successful they are at protecting against the attacks given in the first chapter.

The word horticulture is one of those broad words under which much is grouped. It includes the cultivation of orchard fruits, such as apples and plums; of small fruits, such as strawberries and raspberries; of garden vegetables for the table; of flowers of all sorts, including shrubbery and ornamental trees and their arrangement into beautiful landscape effects around our homes. Horticulture then is a name for an art that is both far-reaching and important.

Extraction activities disturb the land surface through clearing of vegetation, removal of topsoil, excavation of ore and overburden and the construction of over- burden dumps or solar evaporation ponds. Removal and stockpiling of topsoil for subsequent rehabilitation is carried out at many mining opera- tions. In a number of cases, topsoil is removed and placed directly on landscaped reclaimed areas. This avoids the cost of re-transporting topsoil from stock- piles and the possible reduction of biodiversity.

Besides the blowing dust and the heavenly bodies, little else moves on the Martian landscape. This lack of movement might seem to be strangest of all, for we humans are used to motion. Almost from birth, infants follow motion with their eyes, and from then on we are continually aware of things moving about, starting, stopping, turning, bouncing. On earth we see liquids flowing, people moving, and the wind stirring the leaves of trees. Although we can not see them, we know that the very atoms and molecules of matter are continuously in motion. Even mosses and lichens that...
