Tribal medicine

The present study was to document ethno medicinal plants used against health disorders and diseases in Marwar region of Rajasthan, India and to select potential medicinal plants for further in vitro and in vivo investigation. An ethno medicinal plant exploration was carried out in Marwar region of Rajasthan in the year 2017-18. Data on ethno medicinal plants ethnographic profile of the respondents was documented using semi structured questionnaires.

The mahua tree is a nature reward to tribal's communities in India. The country has land of diverse group of tribes they still depend on the forest and its products for survival and subsistence of life. Among these forest products one of Madhuca indica which produce wide variety of products. The products obtained from tree are consumed by these communities itself or sale in local and regional market. Tree having great spiritual, cultural, medicinal, ornamental and multiple utility.

This study was conducted in Adilabad, Khammam and Warangal districts of Telangana. Ex post-facto research design was followed in this study, since different variables chosen for the study had already occurred. An effort was made to document the indigenous technology of tribal farmers.

To supplement the livelihoods of tribal women and nutritional security in Tribal villages of Adilabad district of Telangana state, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Adilabad introduced Backyard Poultry (BYP) as a livelihood opportunity to the tribal women farmers. Under the Backyard Poultry 200 tribal women farmers were selected from the 8 adopted villages of KVK, Adilabad by Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) techniques. Every tribal women farmer was given 10 Rajashree birds as a unit with a worth of Rs.680 and few supplementary medicines and vaccines were also supplied.

Several scientific studies are in progress using modern scientific tools based on the lead from the folkloric and herbal uses for formulating new western medicine. The present study involves the identification, enumeration and utilization of medicinal flora among the Irula tribes of Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu and a record of the endangered medicinal plants in the study area. A total number of 30 respondents of three villages, viz., Chenneri, Orathur and Kunavakkam-Kollamedu were selected by purposive random sampling.

Chironji (Buchanania lanzan Spreng.) is a member of the family Anacardiaceae and it is originated in the Indian sub-continent, is an excellent multipurpose tree species. Traditional indigenous knowledge reveals the immense value of almost all parts of the plant i.e. roots, leaves, fruits, seeds and gum for various medicinal uses. Chironji (Buchanania lanzan) is an important non-wood tree species found in deciduous forests throughout the greater part of India. It is a multipurpose tree and very important plant for rural and tribal economy.

Prevention and treatment of various degenerative diseases using traditional medicines is increasingly generating interest, especially in geriatric clinical research. This study aimed to evaluate the free-radical scavenging properties and potential to prevent DNA damage (from oxidative stress) of 56 extracts (polar and non-polar) from 14 medicinal plants (from 12 families) used by diverse Indian tribes and ethnic groups.

By now, it is widely recognized that gender inequality is both a serious brake on development and a denial of the rights of women and girls. The United Nations System Task Team Report on a Post 2015 Development Agenda therefore recommended that a future global development agenda should not only seek to address and monitor the elimination of specific gender gaps. It should also transform the structural factors that underpin the widespread persistence of gender based violence, discrimination and unequal development progress between women and men and girls and boys.

Traditional herbal medicine has been used since ancient time in many parts of the world where access to formal and modern healthcare is limited. Nepal is not exempt and in mid-hills, mountainous and rural areas of the country where access and services are limited, herbal medicine is the basis of treatment of most illness through traditional knowledge. It is estimated that approximately 90% of the Nepalese people reside in rural areas where access to government health care facil- ities is lacking [30]. These people rely predominantly on traditional herbal medicine.

The herbal medicine in far-west Nepal is the basis of treatment of most illness through traditional knowledge. The medicine is made available via ancient, natural health care practices such as tribal lore, home herbal remedy, and the Baidhya, Ayurveda and Amchi systems. The traditional herbal medicine has not only survived but also thrived in the trans-cultural environment with its intermixture of ethnic traditions and beliefs.
