Tribal setting

The rearing and marketing of capons, a traditional culture, is restricted only to the Tribal and Adivasi communities of Assam. They used to rear the caponized indigenous chicken traditionally with no supplemented feed in the backyard for holy purposes. No recordable experiment has been found to be undertaken scientifically on production potentiality of rearing indigenous chicken cockerels till today even at national level.

Most people in industrialized societies grow up in core (parents only) families with few if any siblings. Based on an evolutionary perspective, it may be argued that this environment reflects a mismatch, in that the tribal setting offered a larger number of close affiliates. The present project examined whether this mismatch may have a negative impact on mental health.

The present study attempts to view the profile of tribal women farmers of Uttarakhand and their opinion towards farming as an occupation. The study was purposively conducted in Uttarakhand. From the state two districts and from each district two blocks were randomly selected. From each block two villages were selected randomly.
