Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: the shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined.

The morphological characters viz., pod length, pod width, pod wall thickness and trichome density in selected genotypes were studied and the correlation studies revealed that pod length showed positive correlation (r = 0.90) with pod damage.

Evaluation of susceptibility or tolerance of selected major citrus cultivars towards citrus leaf miner, Phyllocnistis citrella stainton (Lepidopters: Gracillaridae) based on innate morphological or physiological attributes in the young expanding citrus leaves were studied in the seedling stage as well as in pre-bearing orchards during spring and winter flushing.

Herbivory imposes an important selective pressure on plants. In Arabidopsis thaliana leaf trichomes provide a key defense against insect herbivory; however, trichome production incurs a fitness cost in the absence of herbivory.

Tomato is the second most important vegetable grown in India. It faces heavy attack by pest and diseases in tropical countries. Biotic and abiotic stress is major challenge for higher production of tomatoes. Thrips complex are important sucking pests which also cause more damage as vector species for virus diseases. So controlling the vector by screening against thrips damage/preference is the major concern for screening and developing lines resistant to thrips.

The present study data indicate that wheat trichomes are glandular trichomes. The frequency and development of these trichomes was affected by irradiance. The density of trichomes was negatively correlated with number of phenolic compounds in wheats.

Sorghum is an essential crop in the semi-arid tropics being attacked by nearly 150 species of insects, out of which Chilo partellus is the more devastating pest. Based on the foliar damage the resistance and susceptible genotypes of sorghum can be screened. For further understanding of the host plant resistance relationship between sorghum and stem borer the orientation behaviour and larval establishment behaviour can be studied. The host plant resistance in sorghum to C. partellus can be either morphological or biochemical.

Field trial was conducted for two consecutive years during kharif 2017 and 2018 at farmer`s field, Kadarmandalagi by using randomized block design (RBD). During kharif 2017, among the 20 genotypes screened indicated that lowest mean population of yellow mite and highest mean leaf hair density and trichome length were recorded in Chaitanya (MRC-7377) (0.29 yellow mite/ leaf) followed by Soumya (SRCH-55) and were superior to all the genotypes. While highest mean yellow mite population and least mean leaf hair density and trichome length were observed in Super fibre (KDCHB-407) (2.

Sorghum shoot fly [Atherigona soccata (Rondani)] is one of the most important pests of grain sorghum. It is important to understand the nature of gene action to breed for resistance to the target insect pest. In the present study, a population of 259 sorghum recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from cross 296B (shoot fly susceptible) x IS 18551 (shoot fly resistant) were evaluated in shoot fly screening nursery to study the inheritance of shoot fly resistance. Variances due to RIL genotypes (G), screening environment (E) and G x E interactions were significant for the traits studied.

We investigated the relationship between leaf age and trichome/stomata densities in the snake tomato (Trichosanthes cucumerina L.). In a second experiment, the effects of diff erent salinity levels on trichome and stomatal densities and their micromorphology were investigated.

We studied leaflets of 18 taxa of the genus Mimosa, specifically the Dolentes-Brevipedes taxonomic complex, focusing on micromorphology, type, shape, and density of trichomes. Within the nonglandular trichomes we described 3 types of nonbranched and 2 types of branched trichomes. We also described 2 types of stalked glandular trichomes, extending the recent classifications of trichomes in Mimosa.
