Trigonella L.

In this study, the synopsis of the taxa of the genus Trigonella in Turkey is presented. It is represented with 34 taxa in Turkey. The name of Trigonella coelesyriaca was misspelled to Flora of Turkey and the correct name of this species, Trigonella caelesyriaca, was given in this study. The endemic Trigonella raphanina has been reduced to synonym of T. cassia and T. balansae is reduced to synonym of T. corniculata. In addition, T. spruneriana var. sibthorpii is reevaluated as a distinct species. Lectotypification was designated for T. capitata, T. spruneriana and T. velutina.

In India and other countries of the Mediterranean region, it is primarily used as a spice crop (Acharya et al., 2008) to the flavour and nutritive value of food. Its fresh tender leaves and stems are consumed as curried vegetable. Commercially, it has high economic value as food, fodder and medicine. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L) is a predominantly rabi seed spices crop of Rajasthan. In Rajasthan it is grown in 157 thousand ha area with production of 190.36 thousand tones with productivity of 1212 Kg. /ha. Some physical and mechanical properties of fenugreek seeds and plant were evaluated. The average length, width, thickness and geometric mean diameter of fenugreek seed were 3.47 mm, 2.53 mm, 1.61mm and 2.41 mm, respectively. The observed mean value of fenugreek plant for length, width and stalk diameter was 593.12 mm, 118.16 mm and 2.48 mm, respectively.

Fourty genotypes of fenugreek were grown at College Farm, N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari during Rabi 2015-16. Grouping of the genotypes was carried-out by following Tocher's method (Rao, 1952). The D2 analysis indicated presence of ample genetic diversity among the genotypes studied, which were grouped into 6 clusters. The maximum inter-cluster distance was observed between cluster-VI and V followed by cluster-VI and V. The minimum inter-cluster distance was depicted between cluster-V and IV.
