Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L.) is a cereal crop widely grown in the Mediterranean regions; the amber grain is mainly used for the production of pasta, couscous and typical breads. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection technologies and high-throughput mutation induction represent a new challenge in wheat breeding to identify allelic variation in large populations.

Tunisia is considered a secondary center of diversification of durum wheat and has a large number of abandoned old local landraces. An accurate investigation and characterization of the morphological and genetic features of these landraces would allow their rehabilitation and utilization in wheat breeding programs.

Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var durum) is tetraploid wheat (AABB); it is the main source of semolina and other pasta products. Grain yield in wheat is quantitatively inherited and influenced by the environment. The genetic map construction constitutes the essential step in identifying quantitative trait loci (QTLs) linked to complex traits, such as grain yield. The study aimed to construct a genetic linkage map of two parents that are widely grown durum cultivars (Lahn and Cham1) in the Mediterranean basin, which is characterized by varying climate changes.

Synthetic hexaploid wheat (SHW) is a reconstitution of hexaploid wheat from its progenitors (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum L.; AABB x Aegilops tauschii Coss.; DD) and has novel sources of genetic diversity for broadening the genetic base of elite bread wheat (BW) germplasm (T. aestivum L). Understanding the diversity and population structure of SHWs will facilitate their use in wheat breeding programs.

The tetraploid durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum Desf. Husnot) is an important crop which provides the raw material for pasta production and a valuable source of genetic diversity for breeding hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Future breeding efforts to enhance yield potential and climate resilience will increasingly rely on genomics-based approaches to identify and select beneficial alleles.

Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance in the durum wheat breeding gene pool is rarely reported. Triticum turgidum ssp. carthlicum line Blackbird is a tetraploid relative of durum wheat that offers partial FHB resistance. Resistance QTL were identified for the durum wheat cv. Strongfield × Blackbird population on chromosomes 1A, 2A, 2B, 3A, 6A, 6B and 7B in a previous study.

Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum Desf. Husn) is the main staple crop used to make pasta products worldwide. Under the current climate change scenarios, genetic variability within a crop plays a crucial role in the successful release of new varieties with high yields and wide crop adaptation.

The wheat dwarfing gene increases lodging resistance, the grain number per spike and harvest index. Dwarf Polish wheat (Triticum polonicum L., 2n = 4x = 28, AABB, DPW), initially collected from Tulufan, Xinjiang, China, carries a semi-dwarfing gene Rht-dp on chromosome 4BS.

The differences were observed at pathogenic level also amongst isolates. Most virulent isolate was BS 4 from Faizabad in North - eastern plains zone, which produced susceptible type of infection response even on resistant genotype. It is thus concluded that 13 different types of isolates exists in case of B. sorokiniana in India.

Genetic variability, heritability, correlation and path analysis were estimated among 59 accessions of 08 quantitative characters in durum wheat. The highest value of GCV and PCV were observed for grain yield per plot, tillers per meter row length, spike length, grains per spike and test grain weight. It is also observed that the traits like grain yield per plot, tillers per meter row length, grains per spike and test grain weight exhibited high GCV also possesses high genetic gain indicating preponderance of additive gene effect for these traits.

Among various production factors for wheat crop, time of sowing and wheat varieties are crucial ones influencing productivity. Onset of various phenophases of wheat crop is greatly related with the prevailing temperature at that time. Any deviation from optimum temperature for onset of phenophase may drastically reduce the crop productivity. Similarly wheat varieties play vital role under different temperature situation.

Among cereals, durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. subsp. durum) accumulates cadmium (Cd) at higher concentration if grown in Cd-polluted soils. Since cadmium accumulation is a risk for human health, the international trade organizations have limited the acceptable concentration of Cd in edible crops.

Wheat rusts (Leaf rust, Stem rust and Stripe rust) continue to pose a serious threat by inflicting losses in different parts of world. Leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina Eriks. is the most common rust disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and is widespread in India and posses a major threat to the wheat production of the country. Depending upon the severity and duration of infection, the losses may reach up to 50% of the yield. CIMMYT has developed a series of synthetic hexaploid wheat (SHW) by incorporating D genome donor Triticum tauschii in T. durum cultivars.

The Experiment was carried out to assess genetic variability with respect to grain yield and its components for heat tolerance in durum wheat. The values of phenotypic coefficient of variation in both sowing conditions were slightly higher than that of genotypic coefficient of variation for all the traits studied, indicating less effect of environment on the expression of characters studied.

Variation in lysine content in durum wheat (Triticum durum L.) genotypes under irrigation conditions
The present investigation was carried out to analyze the variation in lysine content in thirty six durum wheat genotypes under irrigation conditions. The cereal proteins are low in lysine one of the essential amino acids that cannot be synthesized by humans and must therefore be obtained entirely from dietary sources.

The treatments comprised of two sowing dates viz. D1-normal sown and D2-late sown in the main plot, and four genotypes viz. PBW-34, PDW-233, WH-896 and PBW-343 in the sub plots were evaluated under split plot design with three replications.
