Ebook "Hurricanes and climate change (Volume 2)" opens with a review of progress on an international project to compare global climate models on their ability to generate tropical cyclones. Chapter 2 highlights predictions of tropical cyclone activity under global warming using a cloud-resolving climate model. Chapter 5 discusses the potential insights of considering tropical cyclone activity as critical phenomenon.

he study uses Best Track Data in the Western North Pacific region from 1961 to 2020. The wind speed fields of all TCs over the coastal zones are calculated using a semi-empirical model with a square grid of 0.05° resolution. The results show that the frequencies of TCs over the coastal zones decrease during El Niño years, whilethe TC intensities increase significantly compared to those in Neutral years. Meanwhile, TC intensities over all coastal zones during La Niña years, and some coastal zones during El Niño years, decrease significantly compared to those in Neutral years.

Tropical cyclones (TCs) frequently occurs and result in substantial socio-economic consequences for the countries around the East Sea. In this study, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) best tracks and the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data are employed to investigate the effect of jetstream on the seasonal variations of the TC tracks. The results reveal four primary directions of the tracks: northeastward, northwestward, westward and southwestward.

Ebook "Intraseasonal variability in the atmosphere-ocean climate system" offers successive chapters that deal with the role of ISV in monsoon variability on the monsoon regions of South Asia, East Asia and South America, in North America, and in the oceans. The coupling between ocean and atmosphere is considered, together with the function of angular momentum and Earth rotation.

Ebook "Tropical cyclone activity over the North Indian Ocean" deals primarily with understanding, monitoring and prediction of Tropical Cyclones (TCs) over the North Indian Ocean (NIO). There is special emphasis on TC genesis, intensification, movement and associated adverse weather like heavy rainfall and gale winds. It highlights the current state of research on TCs over the NIO and recent improvements in early warning systems due to advances in observational, analytical and numerical weather prediction techniques.

In this study, the WRF model is used to investigate the role of Central Vietnam terrain on occurrence of the heavy rainfall event in November 1999 over Central Vietnam. Two model experiments with and without terrain were performed to examine the orographic blocking effects during the event.

The natural disaster risks like floods or tropical cyclones occurred in Vietnam generally and Quang Binh province particularly have been becoming more complex. It is expected to frequently increase due to changing in climate. These could be cause of negative effects on sustainable development and management of natural resources and socioeconomic.

Mangrove coverage in Fiji is among the highest of all Pacific island nations. These ecosystems store disproportionate amounts of carbon, provide critically important resources for communities, and protect coastal communities against the impacts of tropical cyclones.

This increase in the meridional surface temperature gradient is persistent regardless of how the gradient is defined, thus accounting for an increase in vertical wind shear and justifying why the overall number of TCs decreases during the recent period. Along with stronger vertical wind shear, it is also found that the intensity of summer monsoon in the VES decreases between the two periods.

This paper gives the distribution features of the observed meteorological parameters at the Truong Sa island station such as wind, tropical cyclone, and average values of solar radiation, air temperature, air humidity, rainfall. The study results should be the best scientific data for sustainable development of marine economy and national security.

This study demonstrated the prominent role of river meandering in erosion in An Giang province, but the erosion rates of river banks varied largely in time and space because this process is a composition of hydrological and sedimentation alterations due to upstream damming, sand mining, and a tropical cyclone. Hence, the results of this study would meaningfully verify and explain corresponding mechanisms/causes in other related study areas.

In this paper, the relationship between Tropical Cyclone (TC) Genesis Potential Index (GPI) and the number of TC (NTC) associated with ENSO over the Vietnam East Sea (VES) was investigated. Observed TC data of the Regional Specialized Meteorological Center (RSMC) Tokyo Typhoon Center and ERA Interim reanalysis data for the period 1985-2015 were used.

This study has selected a vortex tracking algorithm scheme for simulating the activity of tropical cyclone in the Vietnam East Sea by CCAM model. The results show that the CCAM model is able to simulate well the large scale in each month through a reasonable description of the movement rules of the tropical cyclone in the study area.

In this study, the equations for estimating the number of tropical cyclones (TCs) at a 6- month lead-time in the Vietnam East Sea (VES) have been developed and tested. Three multivariate linear regression models in which regression coefficients were determined by different methods, including method of least squares (MLR), minimum absolute deviation method (LAD), minimax method (LMV).

In this paper, through statistics of tropical cyclones in the East Sea from 1961 to 2017, the research team calculate Tropical Cyclone Power Dissipation (PDI), defined the maximum wind speed and the life time of tropical cyclones, compare with some other indicators that have been used by other authors such as NetTC in the East Sea to see the correlation between indicators and factors related to climate change such as sea surface temperature, Nino 3-4.

This study represents the observed and projected changes in climate extremes in the context of climate change. A linear regression method was used to identify trends and variations of climate extremes in the past, while projected changes in climate extremes were detected based on dynamical downscaling and compared with the baseline period (1986-2005). The results show that daily maximum and minimum surface air temperatures (Txx, Tnn) increased considerably with the highest value of about 0.9o C/decade during the period of 1961-2014.

This paper presents a summary of the results of a study into the effects of ENSO (El Niño and La Niña) on the frequency of cold fronts and tropical cyclones affecting Vietnam. The results show that, during the ENSO periods, cold air activities affecting Vietnam were reduced. The ratio of total positive anomalies to negative anomalies of front frequency was 68% in the case of El Niño, and 60% in the case of La Niña.
