Genetic improvement of root system architecture is a promising approach for improved uptake of water and mineral nutrients distributed unevenly in the soil. To identify genomic regions associated with the length of different root types in rice, we quantified root system architecture in a set of 26 chromosome segment substitution lines derived from a cross between lowland indica rice, IR64, and upland tropical japonica rice, Kinandang Patong, (IK-CSSLs), using 2D & 3D root phenotyping platforms.

In the present study, a set of 30 hybrids derived from crosses between 10 tropical japonica lines and 3 indica were analyzed for heterosis, per-day productivity, yield efficiency and an association index were established between yield and molecular marker amplification pattern.

The present study was carried out to estimate genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for 14 yield and yield related traits and 6 grain quality traits in 150 genotypes. The results showed that ANOVA for all the 20 traits under study revealed highly significant differences this indicates that a wide range of variability was present among 150 genotypes.

Grain yield in rice is considered as a complex trait, determined by the ultimate expression of its individual component traits. Establishing an association between yield and its component traits plays a vital role in stabilizing the trait ‘overall yield’. Correlation and path analysis were examined in 46 rice genotypes including tropical japonica accessions, indica land races and elite indica cultivars as New plant type (NPT) core set along with checks during kharif 2017.

An experiment was carried out to study the divergence among twenty four rice genotypes (14 indica and 10 japonica lines) for 15 agro-morphological traits using D2 statistics and at molecular level using 114SSR markers. The cluster analysis using Mahalonobis’ D2 statistics classified the genotypes into five clusters. The cluster IV was the largest with seven indica and three tropical japonica types. The second largest cluster (V) accommodated four tropical japonica and two indica genotypes. The intra cluster distance ranged from 1.077 to 8.

The isomeranzin, a coumarin was isolated from the leaves of Clausena heptaphylla. The structure was elucidated by IR, MS, 1H and 13C-NMR. For the first time, the anti-Herpes simplex virus type 1 & 2 in vitro activity of the compound was reported and discussed. I - introduction Clausena heptaphylla (Roxb.) W. & Arn. (Rutaceae) (Vietnamese name: Giæi 7 l¸) is a tropical tree [1]. This species is also widely used in traditional medicine. In Asia (China, India, Vietnam, etc.), it is used for fever.
