  • The production potential of root vegetables depends on many factors, amongst them; plant growth regulators appreciably influence the growth, yield and quality of produce. They play an important role in producing high value root vegetables and increasing the yield. They promote root growth, increase the number of flowers, fruit size and induce early and uniform fruit ripening. Foliar application of plant growth regulators is reported to improve tuber yield, dry matter and quality characters like starch, total sugars and beta carotene content.

  • Improving and maintaining soil quality for enhancing and sustaining agricultural production is of utmost importance for India’s food and nutritional security. Permanent Manurial Experiments (PMW) are ideal sites for studying management induced variability in crop production and soil health. The biological activity of a soil is the function of number of organisms present in soil and their physiological efficiency. Soil microbial diversity is one of the most important microbial parameters in soil.

  • To view the effect of depth of planting on growth and yield parameters of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) crop, the experiments were conducted at Students Research Farm, Khalsa College Amritsar. The experiments were conducted at three different depths of planting as treatments viz., D1 (3”), D2 (5”) and D3 (7”) and each treatment was replicated three times. The data had been recorded at their respective stages of growth and total yield were measured at the end of the season of the potato crop. It was found that maximum number of stems per plant was 6.

  • Present investigation entitled “Agronomic Evaluation of Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Germplasm‟ was carried out in the Department of Horticulture, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur to evaluate yield and other related agronomic variation in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) germplasm”. In this research, sixteen diversified sweet potato germplasm were evaluated under randomized block design with three replications. The result reveled maximum tuber length (25.11cm) in „Sree Nandini‟, maximum tuber diameter (75.33 mm) in „Sree Vardhini‟, maximum tuber number per vine (10.

  • Potato is grown in winter months under irrigation in Odisha. The crop has a high water requirement for obtaining good yield. On the other hand, excess irrigation reduces yield and increases production costs. In the present study to assess the effects of irrigation and mulching in potato production, plant emergence and number of shoots per plant were not affected by irrigation and mulching levels. Plant height and number of leaves were significantly affected by the treatments.

  • Dioscorea alata is one of the yam species commonly known as purple yam, winged or water yam. It has high beneficial value due to high nutrition and contains anthocyanin pigment which can be extracted as food colourant. In yam plantations, farmers required to set aside 33% of their harvest as planting materials. To solve this problem, minisett technique was practiced to produce large number of healthy seed yams. The presented investigation entitled “Standardization of minisett technique in greater yam (Dioscorea alata L.

  • Pomato is a grafted plant developed by grafting tomato and potato with an objective to achieve both potato and tomato yield from a single plant. In the present study grafting between tomato and potato was done during November, 2017 at the research field of DDKVK Majhian. 30 days old tomato seedlings were cleft grafted in a 20 days old potato seedling. Successful graft union was achieved after 15 days of grafting. The grafted plants produced profuse branches and flowers. Mature fruits were ready to start harvest in about 110 days after grafting and harvesting was continuing up to 150 days.
