Defects of the neck after palliative resection of exulcerated tumors could be reconstructed with different skin flaps. The present report describes the case of a 40-year-old Caucasian female patient with advanced anaplastic thyroid cancer. The exophytically growing, bad-smelling massive exulcerated tumor caused an esthetic defect, neck mobility restrictions, and mental state deterioration.

High mobility group protein box 1 (HMGB1) is a DNA binding protein located in nucleus. It is released into extracellular fluid where it acts as a novel proinflammatory cytokine which interacts with Toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) to activate nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). This sequence of events is involved in tumor growth and progression. However, the effects of HMGB1, TLR4 and NF-κB on epidermal tumors remain unclear.

Wilson disease (WD), an inherited disorder affecting copper metabolism, is characterized by hepatic cirrhosis and neuronal degeneration, which result from toxic levels of copper that accumulate in the liver and brain, respectively. We reported previously that the 1.3-kb promoter of the WD gene contains four metal response elements (MREs). Among the four MREs, MREa plays the most important role in the transcriptional activation of the WD promoter.

The structural changes produced by the minor-groove binding ligand DAPI (4¢,6-diamidine-2-phenylindole) on individual strands of trinucleotide repeat sequences were detectedby electrophoreticband-shift analysis andrelated to their effects on DNA replication in vitro. N-Glycosylation is a cotranslational and post-translational process of pro-teins that may influence protein folding, maturation, stability, trafficking, and consequently cell surface expression of functional channels. Here we have characterized two consensus N-glycosylation sequences of a voltage-gated K + channel (Kv3.1). Glycosylation of Kv3.1 protein from rat brain and infected Sf9 cells was demonstrated by an electrophoretic mobility shift assay.
