Ultrafiltration membrane

The paper is aimed to build a water treatment model in the laboratory using nanofiltration (NF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes at a household scale. The filtration efficiency of both models will be assessed and compared, from which the paper will give the conclusion on the feasibility of each model in the application for drinking water treatment at household scale.

Nephrogenic ascites is described as a clinical condition of refractory ascites in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on renal replacement therapy. This entity was first described in 1970. Many nephrologists do not believe in nephrogenic ascites. The underlying etiologies can be multifactorial including a combination of poor nutrition, inadequate dialysis and ultrafiltration, increased peritoneal membrane permeability, and overall uremia.

The main aim of this research is to develop a viable solution to treat and reuse car wash wastewater. To do so, two treatment systems were evaluated. The first treatment system comprised of coagulation-flocculation and ceramic ultrafiltration membrane and reverse osmosis and the second treatment system is enhanced membrane bioreactor (eMBR).

Membranes and filters are essential devices, both in the laboratory for separation of media, solvent recovery, organic solvent and water filtration purposes, and in industrial scale applications, such as the removal of industrial pollutants, e.g. heavy metal ions, from water.

Ultrafiltration (UF) is investigated as a possible alternative to remove organic compounds from aqueous synthetic solution. This paper presents a comprehensive study towards a better understanding of phenolic compound retention mechanisms during UF processes. Thus, removal of phenol and resorcinol was studied using a polyethersulfone ultrafiltration (PES-UF) membrane. The influence of main operating conditions (feed concentration, transmembrane pressure, and pH) on the retention was evaluated.

Quantification of mass flows in production lines and waste treatment lines, as well as quantification of energy consumption at a factory is always challenges in cleaner production and pollution control decision making. The case study has conducted at a representative steel making complex in Vietnam, simulating the material flows of water and waste streams, and energy balance (EB) for water production and wastewater treatment processes, by using STAN (subSTance flow ANalysis) and SANKEY software, respectively.

Ultrafiltration membrane was used to treat the effluent from textile industries. Crossflow ultrafiltration using GN polymeric membrane was used to remove the dye from textile effluent. A synthetic textile effluent of Direct-15 dye was used. The study focused through the effect of feed concentration, transmembrane pressure and solution’s pH on the permeate flux and percentage of dye removal were investigated. Dye concentration had significant effects on flux values. Under the fixed pressures and pH, the flux decreased while the dye rejection increased with increasing feed concentration.

Fouling due to organic matters from surface water has been always of concerns as it affects the water production and membrane lifespan. It's the fouling that hinders the wide application of membrane technology in water treatment field. This study aims to investigate the fouling mechanism, which mostly impacts the water permeability via empirical modeling.

The objective of this study was to explore a non-analytical but empirical and mathematical method for the determination of pore size and pore density of several polymeric tailor-made membranes. The proposed method used the fractional rejection concept of solute in membrane pores.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of mature and emerging membrane processes destined for water treatment. These processes include pressure-driven filtration (e.g. microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and reverse osmosis), osmotically driven forward osmosis, and thermally driven membrane distillation.

This handbook emphasizes the use of synthetic membranes for separations involving industrial or municipal process streams. Little will be said concerning the use of membranes in medical applications as in artificial kidneys or for controlled drug release. Most of the membrane processes are pressure driven. The notable exception to this is electrodialysis (ED) by which ions are separated under the influence of an electric field. In addition, the chapter on coupled transport covers processes which are driven under the influence of a concentration gradient....
