Simple and effective purification approach to dissociate mixed waterinsoluble α- and β-D-glucans and its application on the medicinal mushroom Fomitopsis betulina

Differences in anomericity and in the branching degree of glucans lead to characteristic intermolecular association that influences their solubility in water or other solvents. A simple purification approach, based on the glucan solubility in aq. 0.1 M NaOH solution, was applied for the separation of mixed water-insoluble α-Dglucans from β-D-glucans extracted from fruiting bodies of Fomitopsis betulina, which is an underexploited medicinal mushroom.

Surface sterilization for reducing microbial contamination in in vitro propagation of lasora (Cordia myxa Roxb.) using nodal segments

Lasora (Cordia myxa Roxb.) is commonly grown as minor or underexploited crop having great medicinal and food value which belongs to the family Boraginaceae, originates along the Himalayan tract upto 1,500 metres. In-vitro technique is accepted widely to produce virus free plants in a very large number. Production of virus free planting material using meristem culture has been made possible in this crop.

Commercial prospects of under exploited leafy vegetables in India

This paper has been focused on some of them which are widely distributed in various parts of our country India which are categorised as underexploited. They are Sesbania grandiflora, Talinum triangulare, Ipomea aquatic, Chenopodium album, Moringa oleifera, Cucurbita moschata, Marselia quadrifolia, Alternanthera sessilis. These have been found in the Southern and eastern regions of India. These crops need to be expanded quickly for proper nutritional security and prevention against harmful diseases.
