Universal abiotic stress

  • Salinity is one of the most devastating abiotic stresses limiting crop production. Considering this issue, a pot experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the boro season (2017-2018) using two rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties, namely BRRI dhan28 (salt sensitive) and BRRI dhan47 (salt tolerant), to assess the effects of varied salinity levels on the growth and the performance of the rice varieties under salt stress conditions.

  • Chinese jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is one of the most important members in the Rhamnaceae family. The whole genome sequence and more than 30,000 proteins of Chinese jujube have been obtained in 2014. Mitogenactivated protein kinase cascades are universal signal transduction modules in plants, which is rapidly activated under various biotic and abiotic stresses. To date, there has been no comprehensive analysis of the MAPK and MAPKK gene family in Chinese jujube at the whole genome level.

  • In plants, Calcium (Ca2+) acts as a universal messenger in various signal transduction pathways, including responses to biotic and abiotic stresses and regulation of cellular and developmental processes. The Ca2+/ cation antiporter (CaCA) superfamily proteins play vital roles in the transport of Ca2+ and/or other cations.

  • Rice is one of the important cereal crops and more than half of the world population is dependent on Rice as staple food. Rice cultivation is affected by various abiotic stresses like drought, salinity, cold etc. Universal Stress Proteins (USPs) are conserved proteins found across the plant, animals, fungi and bacteria. USPs are reported to be involved in various abiotic stress responses. In this study we have identified 43 USP genes in rice, distributed across the chromosome.

  • Ofcom will adopt an awards process consistent with its statutory functions and duties. The Broadcasting Act 1996 already sets out the process whereby Ofcom awards multiplex licences, including the basis on which applications are made and assessed – i.e. through a competitive beauty contest process13 . The existing process remains largely fit for purpose, subject to removal of provisions which are no longer considered necessary (e.g. the promotion of DTT equipment).

  • Over the period 2002-2007 the total net worth of all individual households increased by £430.3 billion in2003, £431.1 billion in 2004, £475.8 billion in 2005, £504.9 billion in 2006 and £420.9 billion in 2007. In 2008 the net worth showed a dramatic loss of £841.2 billion, which equalled 58.7% of 2008 nominal GDP. In the years to 2011 this loss has barely been recuperated, let alone that any growth path was created identical to the 2002-2007 net worth improvements. These gains and losses arise from both produced as well as financial assets.

  • As a result, the value of your MBA degree is directly related to the prestige of the university and business school which grants it. A recent study of the value of MBA programs concluded that “if you don’t get into a leading business school, the economic value of the degree is really quite limited.” 1 The study examined consultants at McKinsey & Company and investment bankers at Goldman, Sachs & Co. and found that those without MBA’s performed as well, or better, than business school graduates. The fallacy of the study was that it did not recognize that it is...

  • Therefore an Executive MBA degree program was created that is open for management / business ad- ministration graduates as well as for graduates from other disciplines (e.g. computer science, engineer- ing, economics, and psychology). The Executive MBA in Business Engineering program is offered as a part-time program. To guarantee an effective learning situation, two-week learning periods at the uni- versity alternate with six-week practice periods in which the students return to their jobs.

To al- low for a direct, continuous exchange between work experience on the one hand and research and teach- ing on the other hand, these activities should happen simultaneously. We therefore need to offer the pro- gram as a part-time program to allow participating Business Engineers to maintain their careers and stay involved in suitable change projects. If different knowledge areas are to be integrated (e.g.

  • Universities seem not well prepared to ‘educate’ transformation skills. Like undergraduate programs, most MBA programs focus on traditional, disciplinary knowledge (e.g. marketing, accounting / finance, human resources, operations management, and information systems), although complex transformations require cross-disciplinary skills. Even at renowned business schools, integrated, cross-disciplinary pro- grams focusing on change are hard to find (Team Denzler, 2002). If they exist at all, ‘change’ programs often are restricted to soft factors and exclude technology issues.

  • The problem of subjectivity is a profound one. Jackall’s very powerful book, out of print, gives at least some guidance. Looking at ‘the occupational ethics of corporate managers’ (1998, 4) he asserts that career minded managers do not have to work hard but well: that a bureaucracy, which he considers the main structure of organisations, ‘transforms all moral issues into immediately practical concerns.

  • Despite increasing international recognition of the threat posed by terrorists’ use of the Internet in recent years, there is currently no universal instrument specifically addressing this pervasive facet of terrorist activity. Moreover, there is limited specialized training available on the legal and practical aspects of the investigation and prosecution of terrorism cases involving the use of the Internet. The present publication complements the existing resources developed by UNODC in the areas of counter-terrorism, cybercrime and rule of law.

  • The new body plans allowed animals to organize themselves into new ecosys- tems the Earth had never seen before. The earliest animals appear to have lived like sponges do today—trapping microbes or organic matter from the water as they remained anchored to the seafloor. But then animals evolved with guts and nervous systems, able to swim through the water or burrow into the muck. With their guts, they could swallow larger microbes, and, eventually, could even start to attack other animals.

  • The 2005 Declaration discussed above and the Universal Declaration on the Human Genome and Human Rights, 1997 are both resolutions passed in the General Assembly. They have no immediate binding effect. They play a signifi cant role in the formation of customary international law. There are many different forms of law making in international law and although an international convention or a treaty is a source of binding rules, the importance of other methods of formation of international law cannot be underestimated.
