The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of temperature on Pb's toxicity on the test organism Moina Dubia. Moina Dubia belonging to the Cladocera group (Cladocera), an indigenous creature collected at Lake Hanoi. Moina Dubia was cultured under laboratory conditions and has been used to conduct EC50 determination for Pb. Moina Dubia grew and developed well in the laboratory and was suitable as a test organism in toxicological studies.

However, there is a gap of knowledge about the diversity of zooplankton species and how metals accumulate in zooplankton in urban ecosystems. Every day, up to 750,000 cubic meters of wastewater in Ha Noi metropolitan areas is discharged directly into rivers and lakes, of which only 10 % is treated to the Vietnamese standards. Wadi El Raiyan is a great depression located southwest of Cairo in the Western Desert of Egypt. Lake Qarun, located north of the study area, is a closed basin with a high evaporation rate. The source of water in the lake is agricultural and municipal drainage from the El Faiyum province. In 1973, Wadi El Raiyan was connected with the agricultural wastewater drainage system of the Faiyum province and received water that exceeded the capacity of Lake Qarun. Two hydrogeological regimes have been established in the area: (i) higher cultivated land and (ii) lower Wadi El Raiyan depression lakes.

The EPA’s ecosystem protection programs encompass a wide range of approaches that address specific at-risk regional areas and larger categories of threatened systems, such as urban waters, estuaries, and wetlands. Locally generated pollution, combined with pollution carried by rivers and streams and through air deposition, can accumulate in these ecosystems and degrade them over time. The EPA and its federal partners along with states, tribes, municipalities, and private parties, will continue efforts to restore the integrity of the imperiled waters of the United States.

• Monitoring settlement growth around the lake should be carried out regularly. In the study, “Impact of Urban Land use in Naivasha”, M.Mbathi (1998), it was surprising that some settlements in the area grew without proper documentation and planning. The example given was the Karagita settlement, which covered an area of approximately 200 hectares and had a resident population of more than 15,000 people but did not have a layout plan. Many other settlements continue to grow under the same circumstances. The situation could go out of hand if left unchecked.
