This study uses the case of Xuân Hòa - a peri-urban village of Hue City - in order to see the effect of urban growth on households’ livelihoods, food security and coping strategies. The research shows that land loss, unemployment and illness are the common shocks in Xuân Hòa. In coping with shocks, households adopt an ex-ante risk strategy.

In cities throughout Asian countries, there is an increasingly ubiquitous presence of “urban villages” that reflects the transformation of traditional farming villages into urban places under the impact of rapid urbanization. Hanoi - one of the two biggest cities in Vietnam - has been witnessing the fast changes of rural settlements into urban built environments during the in-situ urbanization process since the 1990s. Warmth and affection are aspect of positive relationship that is essential for children wellbeing in early care and education settings. The study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state. Two areas were selected purposively i.e., rural and urban, from urban area Hisar city and from rural area two villages namely Balsmand and Kharia were taken for collection of data. A total of 200 children in three age groups, namely, 3, 4 and 5 years were selected for the study.

The comparative study was conducted purposively in Haryana and Uttarakhand states. Chamoli district from Uttarakhand and Bhiwani district from Haryana states were selected at random. From Chamoli block, Gair village and from Bhiwani block, Chang village was selected at random. Families with adults in the age range of 40-50 years were identified by snowball method. From each state urban and rural sample constituted of randomly selected 120 adults including 60 males and 60 females.

The study deals with the prevalence of menopause and menopausal problems among women in Dharwad and Bagalkote districts. Through Self Help Groups (SHG) and door to door survey conducted along with concerned information among 480 respondents in eight villages from two districts. The women who experienced menopause for at least one year with age ranges 35-55 years in rural and urban areas were considered for the study. The prevalence of the study found to be 44 per cent out of 9512 contacted adult women.

The study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state. The objective of the study was to identify the extent of bullying; victimization and fighting behaviour among rural and urban children. Three secondary and senior secondary schools from Hisar city and three secondary and senior secondary schools from village Ladwa (Hisar district) were selected at random. The study was conducted with all children enrolled in classes 6th to 10th from six selected schools. Total sample constituted of 1070 students, 570 from rural area and 500 from Hisar city.

The present study was conducted in Hisar city and two villages of Hisar district. Two Government Senior Secondary Schools (one for boys and one for girls) from rural area and two Government Senior Secondary Schools (one for boys and one for girls) from Hisar city were selected at random. The study was conducted with 16-18 years old adolescents. These adolescents were selected from randomly selected four Government Senior Secondary Schools. Total sample constituted of 240 adolescents, 120 from rural area and 120 from urban area. These 240 adolescents included 120 boys and 120 girls.

Thirty-eight women and men were trained from June 14 to July 2, 2010 in the administration of the RDHS survey instruments, anthropometric measurement, hemoglobin testing, malaria testing, and blood draw for HIV testing. Seven days of fieldwork were followed by one day of interviewer debriefing and examination. Pre-test fieldwork was conducted in 230 households in two rural and two urban villages outside of Kigali. The majority of pretest participants attended the main training and served as field editors and team leaders for the main survey.

The sample for the 2010 RDHS was designed to provide population and health indicator estimates for the country as a whole and for urban and rural areas. Survey estimates can also be reported for the provinces (South, West, North, and East provinces) and Kigali City. The results presented in this report show key indicators that correspond to these provinces and Kigali City. A representative sample of 12,972 households was selected for the 2010 RDHS. The sample was selected in two stages.
