Current evidence does not recommend screening urine culture and curing asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) before joint arthroplasty. The bacteriuria count on pre-operative urinalysis is a more common clinical parameter. We aimed to investigate whether the bacteriuria count on preoperative urinalysis can increase postoperative wound complications in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Bacterial filamentation occurs when rod-shaped bacteria grow without dividing. To identify genetically encoded inhibitors of division that promote filamentation, we used cell sorting flow cytometry to enrich filamentous clones from an inducible expression library, and then identified the cloned DNA with high-throughput DNA sequencing. We applied the method to an expression library made from fragmented genomic DNA of uropathogenic E. coli UTI89, which undergoes extensive reversible filamentation in urinary tract infections and might encode additional regulators of division.

Aim of the study is to identify uropathogens causing urinary tract infection. To detect ESBLs, MBLs, AmpC producing isolates from urine. Cross sectional study of 300 urine samples was conducted in Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences. The samples were processed and gram negative bacilli were identified as per Mackie McCarteny 14th edition. Detection of ESBLs, MBLs and AmpCs producing organisms among the isolates was done by both screening and confirmatory test as per CLSI guidelines.

The main aim of this study to determine the Bacteriological profile in patients with Complicated Urinary Tract Infection and determine the Antibiotic susceptibility pattern using Kirby Bauer Disc diffusion method. Also identify the prevalence of ESBL in E. coli and Klebsiella spp by screening and phenotypic confirmatory methods. Finally, analyse the drug resistant pattern in uropathogens in cUTI.

A descriptive study was conducted to study the bacterial profile of urinary tract infection in antenatal cases attending a tertiary care unit. The study period was for six months. Totally 246 antenatal women were screened for urinary tract infection. Of them 32 (13 %) were culture positive. E. coli was the most common isolate. Females of 26–30 years of age were most commonly affected, 12 cases (37.5). Urinary tract infection was more common during third trimester of pregnancy.

There is a need for an easy and sensitive method for screening of urinary tract infections in young children. We set out to test whether a novel diaper-embedded urine test device is feasible and reliable in screening for urinary tract infections.

Urinary tract infection is one of the most frequently seen medical complications in pregnancy. Related to it further a number of complications such as acute and chronic pyelonephritis, hypertension, prematurity, intrauterine growth retardation and increased perinatal mortality. The detection of bacteriuria allows an approach to be made for the prevention of complications in pregnancy at an early stage. In view of the above, the present study was under taken with an aim to detect asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy. Two hundred antenatal women were included in the study.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common human bacterial infection in the community as well as in hospital settings (Vijaya Swetha et al., 2014). Urinary tract infection during pregnancy may cause complications such as pyelonephritis, hypertensive disease of pregnancy, anaemia, chronic renal failure, premature delivery and foetal mortality (Moyo et al., 2010).

The present study was conducted to investigate characteristics of electrocardiography in gastroenteritis (GE) and urinary tract diseases (UTD) in dogs. The positive cases of GE (Group B) and UTD (Group C) affected dogs were screened for ECG and haematobiochemical parameters as per the standard procedure and the outcome was compared and correlated statistically with healthy dogs (Group A).

Recent studies on Vietnamese children have shown that kidney diseases are not detected early enough to prevent chronic renal failure. The dipstick test is a simple and useful tool for detecting urinary abnormalities, especially in isolated or remote areas of Vietnam, where children have limited access to health care.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the inflammatory disorders of the urinary tract caused by the abnormal growth of pathogens. Microscopy of urine is of diagnostic value and culture is still the gold standard for isolation of bacteria. However presumptive approach with non -culture rapid screening tests is more practical and cost-effective to manage UTI. The present study is therefore being undertaken to evaluate the usefulness of several laboratory based rapid screening tests compared to culture.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of aac(6')-Ib-cr gene among seventy-two urinary and wound enterobacterial pathogens that were ciprofloxacin-resistant and ESBL producers from the Sudan. All the seventy-two isolates were screened by PCR for the presence of the aac(6')- Ib-cr gene. The new variant of the aminoglycoside acetyle transferase enzyme (aac(6')-Ib-cr) gene was detected among 52 of the 72 test isolates (72%) including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae and Salmonella spp.

Benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) is a non- malignant condition characterized by proliferation of prostatic cells leading to an increase in prostate size, urethral obstruction, and lower urinary tract symptoms. For men, prostate hypertrophy with bladder outlet obstruction is reported to be the major predisposing factor for the development of asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Metallo-beta-lactmase producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains are responsible for several nosocomial outbreaks in tertiary care centres across the world. It is well known that poor outcome occurs when patients with serious infections due to MBL producing organisms are treated with antibiotics to which the organism is completely resistant. Therefore, detection of MBL producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains is crucial for optimal treatment of critically ill patients and to prevent the spread of resistance.

Enterococci are Gram-positive, facultative anaerobic organisms, ovoid in shape, short chains, in pairs or single cells. The common enterococci-associated nosocomial infections are urinary tract infections, surgical wound infections and bacteremia. Resistance to vancomycin is now widely reported worldwide. In India, the prevalence of VRE has been reported as’ 8%, 5.5% and 23% in New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Mumbai. This study was done to detect the presence of vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) among the various samples in a tertiary care hospital.

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a frequent echocardiographic feature in Fabry disease (FD) and in severe cases may be confused with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) of other origin. The prevalence of FD in patients primarily diagnosed with HCM varies considerably in screening and case finding studies, respectively.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common disease affecting especially infants and young children. The clinical presentations are diverse, from an unaffected infant with asymptomatic bacteriuria to a severely septic child. Accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment is important for the prevention of long-term morbidity and sequelae (e.g. hypertension, proteinuria, and chronic kidney disease). The purpose of the present study was to determine the validity of rapidly diagnostic tests for the early detection of UTIs in paediatric patients. Total 247 midstream urine specimens were processed.

The interviews for this book were conducted from May 1977 to December 1979. They appeared as cover stories for the _TV Shopper_, a free weekly paper that was distributed to homes and businesses in New York City. Founded by Bruce Logan in the mid-1970s as the __West Side TV Shopper__, it consisted of TV listings, advertisements, and two full-page stories per issue. One was a "friendly" restaurant review of an advertiser; the other was a profile of a prominent resident of the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The honoree's face appeared on the cover, framed by a TV screen....
