Urinary tract infection causing microorganism
-
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common bacterial infections encountered in clinical practice, which cause morbidity in both hospitalized and out patients. Increasing antimicrobial resistance among bacterial uropathogens is a significant health concern. To determine spectrum of microorganisms responsible for UTIs and their antimicrobial resistance pattern. Urine samples received in microbiology laboratory for culture from 17,135 patients clinically suspected of having urinary tract infection during the study period were processed according to standard protocol.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections. Enteric bacteria predominantly Escherichia coli) remain the most frequent cause of UTIs, although the distribution of pathogens that cause UTIs is changing. The study was based on primary survey to five different slums (Ravindrapuri extension, Nagwan, Bajardeehan, Batuapura and Ghasiyari Tola) of Varanasi city. This study is an attempt to determine the UTI status in slums of Varanasi city.

In the context of the present clinical scenario urinary tract infections are to be dealt with most frequently. The non judicious haphazard use of antibiotics is to be blamed for coming into existence of resistant microorganisms. A myriad of microorganisms cause urinary tract infections. Moreover the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of the isolated uropathogens is changing continuously.
