This book has been written to provide a practical introduction to relational database design and database development for students studying computing-related courses and anyone else who needs to work with relational databases, either as users, designers or developers. Similarly, people who are commissioning a database may benefit from an understanding of this content.

The study in this paper introduces various novel methods utilizing the baseline estimate to learn user interests in specific item features from their past interactions. Subsequently, extracted user feature vectors are implemented to estimate the user-item correlations, providing an additional fine-tuning factor for neighborhood-based collaborative filtering systems.

This study investigates stakeholders’ perception of the sustainability of Nigeria’s MYTO pricing methodology vis-à-vis government’s electricity efficiency objectives. Using a five-point Likert questionnaire, data was collected and analysed via descriptive and regression analyses. The results indicate that 96% of the variations in electricity pricing is accounted for by government’s electricity efficiency objectives of acceptability, accessibility and availability. The study concludes that Nigeria’s MYTO pricing regime is sustainable.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate an extension of reputation based topic trust computation to include degrees of user’s influence in community. We propose a computation method which is exhibited within two steps: (i) Execute topic trust estimation with influence and interests via interaction among peers; (ii) Perform trust computation from reputation according similarity degrees with trustee peer.

This paper proposes a computational model of topic trust being constructed from users similarity and levels of their interaction. It is defined as function of similarity degrees in interests and levels of interaction in topics among users. Based on this model, we may estimate trustworthy values among peers in all cases with some direct and indirect interaction or without any interaction. The proposed approach may overcome limitation in the high computational cost of propagation methods based on graph models.

The purpose of this work is to present a model of trust computation being defined by means of the context of user’s interests and degrees of direct interaction among peers. A dynamic structure of social network based on a hierarchy of peers into k-layer neighbors w.r.t. a given source peer is investigated. We introduce a similarity measure being constructed from the space of vectors of users’ interests. Up on the location of a target peer w.r.t. the hierarchy, we propose methods of estimating trust values via propagation as well as the similarity.

The purpose of this paper is first to present vectorial representations of user’s entries and interests in topics in social networks. Based on such vectorization of short texts, we propose three interest measures of users. And then we investigate the relationships among interest degrees, similarity and trustworthiness of users based on these measures. Some preliminary studies on these correlations are exhibited.

In the experiments, the LSTM networks are compared with a similar deep learning method, which is Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and a baseline machine learning method, which is the collaborative filtering using item-based nearest neighbors (item-KNN). It has been found that the LSTM networks are able to be improved by optimizing their hyperparameters and outperform the other methods when predicting the next movies interested by users.

Swipe-Based Dating Applications (SBDAs) function similarly to other social media and online dating platforms but have the unique feature of “swiping” the screen to either like or dislike another user’s profile. There is a lack of research into the relationship between SBDAs and mental health outcomes.

Social media networks have evolved as a large repository of short documents and gives the greater challenges to effectively retrieve the content out of it. Many factors were involved in this process such as restricted length of a content, informal use of language (i.e., slangs, abbreviations, styles, etc.) and low contextualization of the user generated content. To meet out the above stated problems, latest studies on context-based information searching have been developed and built on adding semantics to the user generated content into the existing knowledge base.

This paper presents a model for estimating the similarity between users based on their behavior on social networks. The considered behaviors are activities including posting entries, liking these entries, commenting and liking the comment in these entries. The model is then evaluated with a dataset-collected users from Twitter.

In the Internet era, the online trading of various fields is growing quickly. As a result, cyber crime is increasing constantly. Phishing is a new type of crime aimed at stealing user information via these fake web pages. Most of these phishing web pages look similar to the real web pages in terms of website interface and uniform resource locator (URL) address.

In this paper, the authors further improve the use of users feedback with multi-feature query and the Choquet integral. Taking into account the interaction among feature sets, feedback information is used to adjust the feature’s relevance weights that are considered as the fuzzy density values in the Choquet integral to define the overall similarity measure between two images.

EES is particularly useful for design problems in which the effects of one or more parameters need to be determined. The program provides this capability with its Parametric Table, which is similar to a spreadsheet. The user identifies the variables that are independent by entering their values in the table cells. EES will calculate the values of the dependent variables in the table. The relationship of the variables in the table can then be in publication-quality plots.
