The possible use of oxytocin in saliva as an indicator of positive emotions in bovine species has been poorly investigated. In the present study, two new assays (one using a monoclonal antibody and the other using a polyclonal antibody) for the measurement of oxytocin in bovine saliva were developed and validated. Also, the changes in oxytocin in saliva were explored in two different situations.

Hypotension after neuraxial anaesthesia is one of the most common complications during caesarean section. Vasopressors are the most effective method to improve hypotension, but which of these drugs is best for caesarean section is not clear. We assessed the effects of vasopressors on the contractile response of uterine arteries and superior mesenteric arteries in pregnant rats to identify a drug that increases the blood pressure of the systemic circulation while minimally affecting the uterine and placental circulation.

Bisphenol-A (BPA), dichrolodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and vinclozolin were found able to induce abnormal uterine contraction. The mechanisms involved remains unclear. We hypothesized that the effect of these compounds were mediated via the uterotonin pathways.

Glory lily is an important medicinal plant which comes under endangered species among the medicinal plants. In Southern India it is called as glory lily and climbing lily-in English. Seeds and tubers contain valuable alkaloids such as colchine and colchicoside, which are having ethnobotanical and pharmacological properties to cure various diseases. The tuber is used as an antidote for snake bites, gout, rheumatism, bruises, sprains, colic and chronic ulcers, haemorrhoids, cancer, impotence, nocturnal seminal emission, leprosy and also for including labour pains and abortions.

Labor is the normal process of coordinated, effective involuntary uterine contractions that lead to progressive cervical effacement and dilatation and descent and delivery of the newborn and placenta. Near its termination, labor may be augmented by voluntary bearing-down efforts to assist in delivery of the conceptus. False labor is characterized by irregular (both in interval and duration), brief contractions without fundal dominance, cervical change, or a lower station of the fetal vertex or breech.

Failure of the uterus to contract and retract following childbirth has for centuries been recognized as the most striking cause of postpartum hemorrhage. Uterine atony is a condition which, in spite of the presence of effective medical interventions, still claims thousands of maternal lives. In the developing world, lack of access to uterotonic therapies that have been available for almost a century represents one of the most glaring disparities in obstetric care today.

Traditionally, the third stage of labor is defined as that time between the delivery of the baby and delivery of the placenta. Separation of the placenta from the uterine wall results from a combination of capillary hemorrhage and uterine muscle contraction. The length of the third stage of labor, and its subsequent complications, depends on a combination of the length of time it takes for placental separation and the ability of the uterine muscle to contract.
